But in general, no. We like building our games that way. Having the DLC exist within that world allows us to, once we're done making all the content for the game and we've finished the game from that standpoint and then spent lot of time playing it, look for areas that we'd like to do more of -- to do something different than when you're looking at the whole spectrum of content you've provided.
Translation: we make our games buggy and unplayable so that we can release an endless amount of additional content. You can't improve on something that's already perfect!
I hope to god they include a patch for the Boots of Springheel Jak quest for the Thieves guild.
The guy ran away on me and I figured he'd come back, but I ended up saving my game after he ran off. Now he won't ever come back, and a lot of people have had that problem as well. A PC fix from a fan has already been made available, but 360 users are pretty much screwed.
Awesome! Oblivion is by far my favorite game of all time (so far) so this is INCREDIBLE news. Hopefully what they're doing isn't something lame like the horse armor. It better be a decent expansion.
I am suprised more don't try to do what Bethsda with Oblivion. The "best" we got was Two Worlds.
I would love it if a company like BioWare or Obsidian did an Oblivion game. There is just sooo much potential, but without mods, replaying the game is boring and dull. Maybe they are learning slowly with Fallout 3, but they have to stop making it for consoles or stop making a PC version so thart they can learn that their product is flawed, right now user-generated content is the only thing that makes Oblivion worth playing.
I get that Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout3, etc are huge games, but would it kill them to have seperate departments doing actual jobs. I bet they do, but you can see that it doesn't look like it.
Like, I dunno, the Animation department? It's not like there are a thousand models to animate differently. It seems (to me) that they are having everyone do everything in order to get some hugemongous game out in stores. Bethesda is huge, the only reason I see they dont do it is to cut costs.
That said, I still enjoyed Oblivion, it was a nice game to play, install mods, etc. Trying out different ways to get around the same situation was kind-of neat. Like trying to sneak past a guard to do an assasination without being seen as a bulky Heavy Armor user, so I would have to strip down to my scivvys and watch closely as the guard made his patrols. Magic kind-of made it a joke I could get through any situation as a mage. Want to sneak? Chameleon. Want to kill? Fireball. Want to be invincible? Enchanting up in 'ere!
Not only did I enjoy Two Worlds, but never played Oblivion with mods. I thought they were fine as they were (less so Two Worlds, but only good after South Peak's patch. Before, it truly is unplayable).
While Oblivion has its flaws, such as sub-par conversations and ruining your chances of completing certain quests by doing certain other ones first, not to mention a leveling system that is detrimental if you don't plan it out beforehand.
Otherwise, no problem. The only mods I've ever used were the stuff for UT3 on the PS3.
The only DLC you really need for Oblivion is Shivering Isles. In fact, forget about saving the world from Oblivion. Just go to Shivering Isles.
As long as I've had Shivering Isles, I haven't checked it out yet and have been spending all of my time in the original world. Maybe I should check it out at some point.
I've gotten all the XBL acheivements (save for one, protip: make a separate save at the start of Shivering Isles), and none have been as rewarding as that expansion.
Shivering Isles is my favorite part of the game. more interesting locations and enemies than than cyrodil. and Sheogorath is awesome. also, some pretty ****ing awesome weapons.
