    Is the Pav special?

Funny you posted that, Nixon, as I was already contemplating making this topic.

As a slight companion piece to Magus' uncharacteristically serious topic, I also had a serious question.

Ever since I joined the Pav four years ago, I've read how the Pav is special in relation to other forums. I've never really been a long-standing member of any other forum out there (I mean, sure, I've made posts here and there at various forums, but nothing like here), and thus have nothing to compare this place to. Thus, I was wondering, what exactly is it that makes the Pav special?

Or as Nixon's post indicates, are we really just like every other group of people on any other forum, and we only think we're special?

This is intended as a serious topic.

We're a small community, close-knit. Others like ours exist, mostly centered around old ass video games (like our own :O). The majority of forums I've visited are too large for their to be much personal identity, which is why the Pavilion is pretty much the only forum I've ever frequented and likely ever will.

We can't ALL fit on the short bus, if that's what you're implying.

Caciss put it rather well. We are a small community, and that seems to make us work. The really big forums, like Gateworld and GameDev, tend to be whirlwinds of craziness and are filled with posters like lil das and simple. We have our nice quiet corner of the internet where we berate people until they become good posters or leave. We keep out the riff-raff

Yeah I hate all those huge forums. Here we have about 30 or so regulars, and you get to know everybody and their little quirks and personality. In huge forums, theres HUNDREDS of members coming through all day long. Its very rare that youll get to know anybody at all. Everybody might as well just be anonymous posters, but with avatars and sigs.

And yet you love 4Chan. Oh, the irony!

But 4chan really has only 1 member, and 10 million people trying to pose as him.
                ...and that's why.

I dunno. Theres something special about the good boards on the chans. Some how out of the sheer chaos, and randomeness, order rises out of the ****ty ashes and intelliegtn regular people have great conversations about things they like. Not all of 4chan is LOL /B/ SO RANDUM ANONYMOUS IS LEGION. In fact many people on the other boards will tell you to get the hell out when stupid people like that wander in.

Plus theres ALWAYS people to talk to there when your bored.

                  /co/, /ck/, /an/, /k/, /m/, /mu/, and /toy/ are all great hangouts.

I have visited forums that are just as small and equally as close knitted. (And none of them were about video games)

However, I have never visited a forum where the users share so much about their own life. Maybe a name, a few photos, a job title--but thats it. But this place...if you've been here long enough, and read enough, you can literally see the life progression of some the board's members.

I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
