I'd be okay with it, but only if negative rep counts as -1 point, no matter what. That way positive rep could easily cancel it out.

I think severe restrictions should be in place for it, too. It should be used sparingly. If people abuse it, they should have the ability to give rep removed. If it creates more drama, then it should be eliminated again.

That's just my opinion.

we can take away negative rep-giving abilities from certain users if it becomes a problem. we did it before.

and yeah, if drama started up again, it'd be removed for good.

I cant remember what the negative rep point increment is. I know it's tied to the positive increment (which goes up 1 point for every year registered). I dont think it can be manually changed to any certain amount.

absolutely not. things are fine right now where people call others out rather then use rep as a weapon. the problem is you cant strip long standing members of using neg rep, its too taboo so dont say removing rep from some people would be a reality. this is even more true when its some admins and moderators who where abusing neg rep. keep it dead, we dont need this trash.

the only reason this has come up is because so many people were talking about wanting it back yesterday. it has come up twice in the advisor forum, and several times in public forums. so I figured if people wanted to make one last attempt at bringing it back, they could vote for one.

we can and we did! lots of times! ryner got hit with disabled negative rep at least three times.

this is even more true when its some admins and moderators who where abusing neg rep. keep it dead, we dont need this trash.

didnt happen. me and mora watched the rep comments like hawks, and of all the complaints about neg rep abuse we got, it never once involved a staff member.

I'm again' it, I'm sick of the bellyaching though. I think Nix's idea regarding this is the best and really only way to implement it.

you werent on staff back then. you started being responsible after your staff position turned into something more than "guy who does icons"

prior to your staff position though, well, you were one of the people panicking when neg rep points got usernames attached to them.

One suggestion I have would be to make it so you can't give negative rep too often to the same person. Like normal rep, you have to rep others before you can go back to someone again.

Or if possible, make people not give negative rep to the same person after a certain period of time after giving it. This way, if you don't want to give bad rep to others, wait like 2 weeks or something before doing it again. If this is entirely possible, that is.

it follows the same rules as positive. negative and positive points both count towards your daily limit, and there's still a 5 person distribution requirement before you can give any rep to the same person again.

If it's equal to the amount given for a positive post, and it can't be adjusted, then I'd like to change my vote to "nay." I think it should only be -1 or -2 at the most.
