Since the Pav compilation album has been on hiatus for several months, I've decided to take this project into my own hands. What I plan to do is combine everyone's musical efforts (.mp3s, please) into a .rar file, which will be able to be downloaded at one of these various sites (Media Fire, Zshare, etc.) I think a maximum of four songs would be a suitable number for persons interested in this musical venture, but I am open to suggestions.
First Update: July 2007
I want to compile a song or songs from anyone here at the Pav that makes their own music and make a Pav compilation. How I want to do this is as follows:
I'm gonna make a poll as to if people would rather have an MP3 disc made, in which case I can accept 10 artists and 60 MB of material from each; or would they rather have an audio CD, in which case I will accept 10 artists with a maximum of 7 and a half minutes of music allotted to them. This would mean that if you want to submit a seven and a half minute song, that would be okay, or if you want to submit a four minute song and a three and a half minute song, or any combination thereof, that would be fine too.
When the CDs are made, each of the ten artists will be sent a full-color disc (my buddy Eric just bought a printer that prints images directly onto a CD, and offered to make some for me). Once the CDs are compiled, I will make a post in this thread offering to make twenty more for regular Pavilion members. Anyone can request one, but I will put a time limit on the requests, and if more than 20 people want one, I will draw randomly as to who gets one. The first five people whose names I draw will get a Lightscribed version of the CD, and the other 15 will get theirs on a regular blank CD-R.
Second update: Late July 2007
I'm thinking about using either Gmail to transfer stuff, or AIM/YM, which might be a bit better. Then again, if anyone's on Soulseek, I can always get your music that way, too. I'm hoping to have all the music compiled within a month/month and a half after selecting the artists, but that could change depending on extenuating circumstances.
So let's see, two weeks for the poll, two weeks for artist selection, a month or more for compiling....it looks like this thing is not even gonna be ready to be burned for the first time until at least two months from now. Burning might take a while, too, considering my friend has offered to put images on some of the CDs for me, and I only see him 2-3 times a month or so. Best guess is that these are all gonna be mailed around beginning/mid November. I really want to get it done sooner, but after thinking about the logistics behind this, it's probably gonna take about that long. It'll be a nice early X-mas present for those that win a copy of it.
That's all I can think of for now...if I think of more later, I'll post again. Thanks for asking, though....it allowed me to just now work this all out in my head.
Third Update: September 2007
Basically, I was kinda waiting to get all ten artists represented, or at least as close to ten as possible. Right now, if you want, I can begin taking submissions from those who have already confirmed in order to begin getting a folder ready. In all honesty, though, before I finalize anything, I kinda want to see how things turn out with Highwind, who apparently is travelling cross-country, and might not have access to the internet for a while; I was also waiting to see the status of Really Awesome's current project(s), and was most definitely holding out for a bit for word from Pandable, as no Pavilion CD comp would be complete without at least one song from him. So, yeah, if you're interested in sending me stuff, or giving me links to stuff I can put on the CD, by all means, post here or PM me....other than that, until I hear final confirmation from the three aforementioned individuals, I'm holding off on calling the CD "complete."
Fourth Update: January 2008
I don't need to bump this, as it's stickied, but I thought I would post something new instead of editing. Long story short, this obviously went nowhere. I thought about asking Valk to unsticky this a number of times, but now I might get something done on this project.
When I initially made the thread, I was in a "management" position at my job, and was soon to be faced with the dreaded holiday season (I work retail). Thus, all motivation I once had to make games, review games for the Mag, and finish up this little project was exhausted due to not wanting to come home from an 8-16 hour day (average in Nov and Dec was probably 11-12 hours) and do more "work."
I've just recently moved into sales, and assuming the bottom does not completely drop out of the economy, I should be making more money and have WAY less stress, and thus have more motivation to do the more creative stuff mentioned above (you know, stuff I once enjoyed). So by March, once I get settled into my new position and have a week of vacation time I'm intending to take, you'll (hopefully) see some rapid progress on this endeavour. If April begins, and this is is still going nowhere, I'm gonna ask Valk to unsticky this, and chalk it up to another grandiose, ambitious idea destined for incompletion/failure (see my gaming forum for more evidence of this )
I apologize to everyone for getting some hype behind this thing and then not following through. Hopefully that'll change in the near future (and hopefully my next RPGM game will follow suit).
