Re: The 100 Best Games to Play today
Link to the Past and Twilight Princess are both superior to Ocarina of Time. But at least LttP is top five. I can live with that in this day and age.Last edited by IRC; 03-09-2009, 11:32 PM.The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Re: The 100 Best Games to Play today
The dearth of RPGs was a little disappointing, and they went WAY too gaga over Nintendo's in-house games at the top end (seriously, does anyone actually still enjoy Super Mario 64? I don't...), but... overall, that's a really solid list. They didn't fall into the trap of buying pure hype over games or becoming too pretentious with sleeper titles that were more novelty than experience.
I was particularly pleased to see:
Yoshi's Island: Probably the best 2D platformer ever. I know SMB3 has a lot of fans, but this is apples to oranges.
Civilization IV: The most intelligent game I've ever played, personally, and still visceral enough to be fun. Which is saying a damn lot for a TBS.
Sims 2: Would have liked to see this ranked higher, but I think they nailed what made this such a wonderful, fulfilling game to play.
A few downright bizarre choices, given similar and better games:
Super Monkey Ball: Its sequel was a far, far better game in every way.
SingStar: Generally considered inferior to the Karaoke Revolution series (my personal choice would be KR Party).
FFXII: Not denying its a great game, but also can't offer what VI or VII could.
And a few omissions that I didn't like:
MMO's: By my count, WoW was the only one to make it. I could make an argument for Asheron's Call or EverQuest or Second Life, but Guild Wars not making the list is criminal.
Katamari Damacy (or We *heart* Katamari): I don't know a soul who has played this and still wouldn't put it in their 100-game collection.
Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross: 'Nuff said. (EDIT: Apparently 'nuff WAS said, because according to Mora, CT is on there.)
Spore: It's not the best game ever, but I don't see how a game can do so much that's never been done before, make it fun, and not crack the Top 100.
Dark Cloud 2 or Rogue Galaxy (pick based on preference): IMHO, Zelda refined into what it should be, and a lot more charming to boot. For the record, I'd take DC2 by a mile over RG.
Persona 4: The shining capstone of gaming's "current gen" deserves a Top 20 spot for combining a compelling story with flawless gameplay and giving us the best translation job in any game ever.Last edited by Wavelength; 03-10-2009, 12:29 AM.

Singstar? SINGSTAR??
Sad as it is, I own the PS3 Singstar...well, one of them, anyway (only because I got it for $15 with mics on clearance at work).
Only a few good songs on disc, but I downloaded a bunch of Coldplay (those high notes are the easiest for me to hit!), Radiohead (ditto) and Stone Roses. Plus, Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division! I wouldn't put it in my top 100, but it's an entertaining diversion that makes me feel gay (in being able to effortlessly hit those high notes in falsetto).

Thanks for the catch on CT.Originally posted by John Mora View PostCT was on there, jeez.

VI and VII couldn't offer what XII could, maybe, but the mere fact that this could go both ways, when one was made ten years after the other... I dunno, I think it gives a lot of credence to the idea of VI and VII both getting higher spots (personally, I'd have VII in the top 20).
