Re: FFXII Class Challenge
I got bored faster than you, apparently. I started one myself a couple weeks ago but I don't play it a whole lot since I bought Disgaea 2.
My party:
Vaan - Chemist
Balthier - Monk
Fran - Red Mage
Basch - Paladin
Ashe - White Mage/Summoner
Penelo - Black Mage
Of course I used the Dustia-chain levelling trick so Vaan was level 23 before I went to the Garamsythe Waterway. Thinking about starting it over without power-levelling so there's a bit of a challenge for once.

Re: FFXII Class Challenge
It's interesting but I wouldn't follow the guide exactly. It seems he makes limitations on some classes simply because he feels it would limit another. Like not giving the Dark Knight beserk because it would make the Beserker unnecessary. But I have no interest in playing with Beserker then why would I care about giving the Dark Knight beserk. The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Re: FFXII Class Challenge
I agree with you on that. I myself don't bother with a few of the restrictions like augments and accessories, especially accessories. For some of the classes they made it seems like they just reached into a bag and grabbed a handful of slips of paper with accessory names on them.Originally posted by IRC View PostIt's interesting but I wouldn't follow the guide exactly. Also, certain equipment restrictions hamper gameplay or otherwise ruin the "flavor" of the class they're going for. For example, a Samurai can only equip heavy armor, which is accurate as far as the history of FF games go, but katana damage is based on magick power, so their version of a Samurai isn't up to its real potential. "Flavor"-wise, the Dark Knight can only equip Shields 1-4, but not the Demon Shield, which would be the quintessential Dark Knight equipment.
The challenge isn't perfect, but with a little work on the player's part it can be a more rewarding experience than just having every character end up the same at the end of the game.Last edited by Riotsword; 03-08-2009, 08:56 PM.

Re: FFXII Class Challenge
I think the biggest thing is the no items clause but I think he's just trying to get people to get around the magic restrictions by using motes, which is something I rarely do in games. Maybe just low level items except for chemists. But the idea is intreguing and I naturally did this anyways when I played it the first time. Penelo concentrated on magic, Ashe was half and half and Fran was a black mage. But eventually everyone had everything unlocked and I stopped the pretense. But Zidane, I mean Vaan was always a thief. The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Re: FFXII Class Challenge
Here's an alternate method that tries to emulate the International version of the game as closely as possible:

It's a bit more popular than the old GameFAQs class challenge.

Re: FFXII Class Challenge
We'll see Final Fantasy XL and Kingdom Hearts 9: Toilet of Friendship and Never Giving Up before we see FFXII IZJS here in English.
**** you, Square.
(Trying copy-paste of orius's posted FAQ, different link.)
