How do you get a monk in jail?

I have writer's block. My Monk, Chen Zen is suppose to go to Jail when he enters a certain town on the continent of Twilight Gates. I have no idea on how to get him in jail. I have a way for him to escape. But I need him in jail inorder to get him out.

He was once a Ninja and I was toying with having his past catch up with him. I'm afraid though it is too early in the game to start hinting about his past, because this is the first big Continent of the game. Plus I plan to have him fight his former Ninja Clan later on in the game.

    Any suggestions?

Perhaps he breaks an unusual law.

Or as ugly as that typo.

Maybe (I'm not sure how your game world is laid out in regards to religion and whatnot) he practices meditation or some other form of spiritual enrichment that is frowned upon by the populace, and there is a bigoted city official who has his own reasons for not wanting this to be practiced in his town, and therefore sets up the monk for something to do with his beliefs which lands him in jail.

Maybe when he gets out, there can be a side quest to wrap up the city official plotline, like maybe a moral choice on whether or not to "go all ninja on his ass" or something. This would introduce a choice for the player that you can then use to manipulate events down the line, and it would also give some background on possible religious/spiritual conflicts and beliefs, if you want to explore those areas.

          Just a thought.

He might help a kid that's running from someone, and it turns out the kid stole from that someone and the monk is believed to be his accomplice?

I suppose the easiest way would be through a misunderstanding. Like he trys to help the above-mentioned kid and gets into a fight with some locals and gets thrown in jail for assaulting innocent people. Or there's a corrupt police official who throws him in jail for some made-up reason that nobody questions because of fear. It really depends on other factors of your story. If monks are looked down upon by normal society then it could be simple prejuidice that gets him locked up.

That being said a monk who used to be a ninja sounds like some pirate vs ninja joke. The two are too different for me to reconcile one person being both. I think you'd be better off coming up with an original ninja-like clan of warriors but still you'd have the problem of the two conflicting styles of fighting, ninjitsu and kung fu.

Hmmm. They all sound interesting. I really like the misunderstanding or the corrupt official. I have a corrupt Lord on the Continent.

Chen Zen was a ninja when he was in his late teens. I'm not really sure why, but he starts to question his line of work. Then during one of his missions for the Ninjas he runs into a group of Monks. The Monks can sense the indecision in him and his strong spiritual power. They offer to help Chen Zen redeem himself and help cleanse his soul. You see he was never meant to be a ninja. He is a good warrior, but his soul can't stand the bloodshed.

If you're confident that you can do it right then stick with it.

Actually its she. Not the first time that mistake has been made though.

Any way I was thinking about having Strodham the Bandit ( Main Villian ) set Chen Zen up. Not sure how, but I was thinking on having Sierra, who is in his gang, tell Chen Zen that two men are chasing her. So he jumps in to fight them only to find out that they are actually Town Guards. This would lead a way for me to introduce the villian.
