I bought the first game several months ago for a mere 2-3 dollars, and once I heard that there was a sequel, I figured I'd own that too. Ebay had one copy listed for 25 bucks including shipping, but I decided to wait it out...for several weeks. Luckily for me, Amazon had a copy much cheaper, so I ended up getting it for 6 bucks, saving me damn near an Andrew Jackson.
Now, on to gameplay. The first game is super slow, which is a limitation for a Game Boy game; the second game moves much faster, and you get to have a team of people to aid you on your journey. I haven't gotten very far because, frankly, I'm not sure where to go, and my party is weak as well (the monsters I face are much too powerful).
The second game also includes two save states, as compared to the first that required a tedious password. Finally, when I get to a particular "safe point" in the game, I can approach a helpful guy who replinishes my health, while the first Rolan's Curse provided none of this.
The second is clearly better...for now. God, I love owning vintage video games.
