    Going to a Skillet concert

Got the tickets today. I'm pretty excited about this because Comatose was my favorite album of 2008. They're touring with Disciple and Depyfer Down. I don't really like Depyfer Down that much, but Disciple is pretty good (and an over looked gem by most people if you ask me).

    Skillet: Comatose

    Decyfer Down: Fight Like This

    Disciple: Scars Remain

    Disciple: After the World

Skillet, seriously? What the hell kind of name is that? On a related note, I feel like having some bacon for breakfast.

Sorry, typing with a PSP here. Spelling errors with this thing is quite common.

        @Jamos

It means that they change up their sound with each album release. Kind of like you cook different things each time you use a skillet.

I lasted 41 seconds. Wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt, even though the orchestration sounded bad right from the get-go, and then the RAWK made it that much worse. But I was able to last until he started singing. Is this really what the kids are listening to these days? It sounded like any other emo/nu-metal band I've ever had the displeasure of hearing.

And yes, Navane, maybe I'm old and not down with what the kids like these days, but I DO listen to modern music, just so you are aware. Mostly indie rock, post rock, "electronica," hip hop, and a bit of metal. You know, what the kids who do not follow the herd of lemmings listen to.

EDIT: And that's REALLY what they look like? I saw the pic in the other topic with no reference point, and thought it was the cast of some new Showtime parody or comedy show or something.

Did you even TRY Disciple? You have to at least like After the World. I mean, I think the guy has a really good voice, imo.

                  39 seconds.

Should've guessed with a title like, "Scars Remain," it'd be emo/screamo.

I mean, it's cool if this is what you like, Navane. Just be aware that this genre MIGHT last for another 2 years or so, and then you'll be on to whatever the "next big thing" is.

Funny thing about music that's original, unique, or tries to do something different. It usually holds up well ten years down the line.

Don't mean to be so harsh, Navane. If you're into emo, that's cool. I just have a feeling ten years down the line, you'll be a bit embarassed that you actually listened to this.

EDIT: Just listened to the acoustic one, and lasted over a minute. Turned it off when he sang the creepy line, "I've had my eyes on you since you were born."

The only Skillet song I really like is "Whispers in the Dark."

I tried adding the vid to the thread, but it was just a white box.

Actually, I try not to follow trends too much. That's why I mostly listen to hardcore/metal/metalcore.

Because I try not to follow trends, that's the reason why Tourniquet is my favorite band. They don't really sound like anything current (more along of '80s music). Sure, they're not the greatest band out there, but I like them reguardless.

I never understood the facination to going to a concert, especially when they have CDs and stuff out.

I guess it's an "experience" kind of thing, I dunno, I think I would rather just listen to the music without some ravving fan screaming in my ear while doing it.

Re: Going to a Skillet concert

It IS about the experience. I've been to upwards of 250 concerts in my life (kinda lost count after a while), and if it's a band you really like, and everyone else is a fan, nothing beats the vibe you get from experience you are sharing with everyone else (I'm mostly talking about smaller venues, not ampitheaters and whatnot). Plus, depending on the band, a lot of times they'll take a song and change it, or jam on it, or go in a different direction with it.

And sometimes, you'll see a band (even one you're not 100% familiar with), and everything just clicks that night, and the experience is exhilarating. I've seen the band Spiritualized 3-4 times, as an example, and while they've always put on a good show, one time, without explicitly doing anything different, the music combined with the vibe around the venue was electrifying. If you've never been, RD, you can't really understand.

It's not offensively bad, but it's not particularly good.

Most of the posts in this topic are on the verge of retardation though.

If you think there's a better band out there, why wouldn't you like them more?
