    Ys I and II DS

My copy finally arrived from Amazon.com and listening to the soundtrack as I write.

I really am liking the remake, other then the fact that each time you run into someone you automatically talk to them. But the game is still as good as it was back then.

I've always hated the Ys series but I'm glad you don't have to do something as stupid as bumping into the enemy to beat them this time around.

And yet... I own every English release of a Ys game. Go figure.

I gave the VC version a shot, as I had never played a Ys game before, but I've heard about the series for a good number of years. I started playing and after running into the enemies to damage them, I thought I was doing something wrong. It's not turn based, but I couldn't hit an attack button to wield a weapon, either. You just continually run into an enemy to damage them. I thought, "What IS this s***?" and then stopped playing, as I didn't think I'd make it through 20+ hours of a s***ty story and 20+ hours of no strategic depth whatsoever. It was probably the shallowest game experience I've ever had.

That being said, Luminous Arc 2 and The Dark Spire both also come with soundtrack CDs, and both are (or will be in the case of The Dark Spire...I'm basing my opinion on previews I've read) to Ys as Oblivion is to Atari Adventure.
