30 Rules Every RPG Must Follow

    http://www.gamesradar.com/f/30-rules...03031124494088

It's a somewhat funny artical. I'll definitely consider what this says when developing my story.

Yes, I'm still working on my game. Shocker, I know.

Twothorp was in immense pain. The blisters did not care.

This is why I haven't picked up a jRPG since FFXII came out.
      ...and that's why.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but if you enjoy RPGs you really ought to look into Persona 4.

It's a really great game. It doesn't re-invent the wheel, but it does some very interesting things to it.

I've been playing the crap out of Baldurs Gate II and I have just started Planescape: Torment.

          But they're WRPGs so whateva'.

I guess this article's just like that other list way back, what was it, 100 RPG cliches?

I hate to sound like a broken record as well, but Persona just isn't my shtick. There's just something unappealing about the atmosphere, music, and art direction to me. I watch Kirin play it, that's enough. I honestly haven't enjoyed a jRPG that fell into this list of cliches since FFX. My tastes have been gravitating towards western ones and MMOs. Their free-roaming nature is something I seem to enjoy more and more lately.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the classics, and even pine for a replay through of FFIX and BOF3. But like the article said; played one, played them all.

Japan is a country, whose name is capitalized. Japanese is a word for something that comes from Japan, which is also capitalized. You seemed to have gone out of your way to type the "J" in JRPG in lowercase, as if it's not important enough to capitalize, as you typed it twice in two posts.

It's a failed attempt at humor, Den.

it's easier for me to read. Or maybe I'm just gravitating towards jRPG the same way we enjoy the word iPod or iPhone or iBook.

JRPG just doesn't look as cool to me.

                      I don't know what a jRPG is, but Baldur's Gate 2?
You mean the PS2 Dark Alliance 2?
I can't find that title anywhere.

If you mean the pc one, then, Nevermind

Red Dragon posted it; therefore, he's talking about Baldur's Gate II for PC.

I have Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 and 2 for the original Xbox. The first was quite good; the second, I didn't get that far in, as it seemed to be more of the same.

Oh, and JRPG means Japanese RPG, as opposed to Western RPG (ie-Fallout, Oblivion, etc).

I like how Mother 3 took every RPG trope and spun it in a new direction. Chapter 1 started out with "monsters invade your home" but instead of defending yourself, you're wandering around trying to figure out what's going on in the confusion and they use it as a way to introduce the characters.

Speaking of which, Mother 3 is one of those few RPGs where I wanted to speak to everyone. Each NPC has their own name, back story, and evolves over the course of the game's years.

Earthbound on the other hand just tossed everything out the window. The "final dungeon" is an alien womb corrupted by a psychic creature and you have to transport your minds to robots in the future and get everyone in the world to say a prayer that will ease the big bad's soul. That right there is awesome.

After the end cut scenes and end credits, there's a secret bonus cut scene to spark fan demands/expectations for the inevitable sequel.
