    Killzone 2

I decided to pick this up today, have yet to play it though and I won't be able to play it for a couple days but who else is planning on getting it here? I honestly don't know what to expect. I've been ignoring most of the hype and from what I hear the first Killzone wasn't that great (never played it). So far Killzone 2 has a 91 on MetaCritic so that's something... right?

Very few enemy variations, cliched situations repeat over and over again, and there is not enough story to fill a Saturday morning cartoon.

Bought it Friday, finished it last night, and this game is utterly fantastic! But then again, no one can trust my reviews of PS3 games i guess.

My question though, I wonder what score this "Absolute Games" gave Halo 3, cause this game trounces Halo 3 on SO many levels it is sad sad sad.

the demo really bugged me with how low the camera is. you truly feel like a midget next to other people in the game. I know when you're in a war, you rarely stand up straight, but.. yeah. midget simulation.

        anyone else bugged by that?

I read Tom Chick's impressions when he complained about that Valk, but when I played the demo the difference in height wasn't as noticeable as he made it seem.

Played through the first two levels, absolutely love it. Just been so busy moving out of my apartment and stuff. I hope to finish it soon and get started online.

Hah, same here. I thought I was crouching but...well..it is pretty funny. I'm poor right now there are too many damn games to pick up so I'll buy this another day.

Played multiplayer online tonight for the first time, and i LOVE how you can play all of the game types without having to reload a game. The game is dynamic, and once one game type is over, it instantly goes to the next. No respawns, no loading, nothing.

                Freaking awesome!

I just want to be able to unlock some classes.

I heard it takes forever to unlock the classes.

Probably because the camera is through the character's eyes and not the top of their head like every other fps game. I was slightly off put by Mirror's Edge at first because your head bobs in front of your feet which makes some of the more precise jumps difficult since you have to time them to when the ledge disappears from your vision.

Hooray for more FPS games with through-the-eyes cameras. Last one I played was ArmA which actually simulated peripheral vision.

I liked the first Killzone and I don't like FPS games. If I still had a PStriple I'd get this.
Enemies became icons on the edge of your vision and there's a mod that stretches and blurs the outer edges of your screen. When you aim down the iron sights or a scope, you get tunnel vision simulating the effect of closing an eye and focusing on a single spot.

The game is so complicated that someone wrote a 100 page manual using actual infantry tactics to explain the game. The dude printed it into a book, it's ridiculous.

                        Re: Killzone 2

I like Tychos "review" on the online part of the game at PA. It sounds awful. :/

The Squad system they have in place isn't sufficient for their purpose. Like every other Goddamned thing in Killzone 2, the ability to create a Squad is a feature you unlock. Back when Frank Caron was writing for Ars Technica, he had it nailed to the wall: squadding is too important to have it managed the way it is. Bad Company sets up squads automatically, because they're the difference between winning a round and losing it. When you get (or give) a squad invite in KZ2, there's no way to respond to these requests while in the actual flow of play. The result is that, often, people aren't joining squads. When you do create a squad, it doesn't persist from round to round. There's also no party system, which would streamline this substantially. This stuff might not be a big deal for the dedicated clans the game was clearly designed to court, but for people who are trying to play a videogame for recreational purposes this ain't cutting it.

When Gabe came into the office this morning, he established that he really wanted to play Killzone with me, but it wasn't listing me as Online for him. He might have assumed that the weekend's intermittent PSN functionality had created this scenario, but the reality is that Guerilla Games did this by design. If you have a friend who is playing Killzone 2 in single player, they don't show in the game's own friends list. I was only playing the single player because I was waiting for a Goddamned friend to come on! No, no, and no.

Played a couple of games online. The maps are huge, so for me it's kinda hard to navigate my way around. Aiming isn't so bad. Pressing R3 works, or even just doing short bursts is good too.

Everyone else is too good, already. I barely made any kills. Died a lot too.

There's a demo for this right?

I played the first couple levels, then tried multiplayer, and haven't gone back to the single player mode. The multiplayer is addicting.
It does take a while to unlock all the classes, I played all weekend and just yesterday finally unlocked Tactician.
But I've already seen plenty of snipers (which requires the highest level to unlock), so I think the exp system is nicely spread out.
