View Full Version : Sims on RPGM2
So, I was playing around in RPGM2, and I actually got a nice character creation system done, from there im gonna make a Sims game where you start out in a very tiny home, and as you progress through your job, you will earn a much higher income and gain a lot more houses and items to put inside your houses. This is in complete super super beta at the moment, as im not even sure its possible(of course it is just gotta be 100% sure how I want everything to work). Well here is a screen shot of the Status bars that will be seen, ill update this topic accordingly as I progress.

It looks pretty cool, man. I wish you the best of luck.
Btw, are you a programmer of some kind, or are you just very skilled with RPGM2?

Im no programmer, but I am very skilled with RPGM2, I know just about everything about it, except the default things, no reason in my opinion to learn it. Also, its kinda funny, because im going to school for Graphic design for video games, so I may work on programming one day.

Cool. If you don't mind me asking, how long have you owned RPGM2 and how long did it take you to learn everthing you know about it? Sorry, I'd just like to know because I'm working with RPGM2 right now, and I'm curious how long it will take me to learn the ins and outs of the game based somewhat on your answer.
One more thing, did you teach yourself how to use RPGM2, or did you have help along the way?
Ive owned it since 2005, 3 years, but about a whole year of non playing, And I taught myself a lot of it, but ive had a lot of outside help, they helped me understand more about how RPGM2 works, I honestly know how to break every little burden in RPGM2, not saying I found them, I can just utilize them well.
Well as promised here is a demo, not much can be done, but you can interact with a lot of things. http://forgottenpasts.net/RPGM2Games/TheSimsRPGM2.zip

The game looks really good. I'm just happy to put a flame on a candle let alone have status bars on the world map. Is it going to be like the Sims 2 or are you going to give it a special title, for example Sims 2 Nightlife?

I haven't played the demo yet, but I from the video I saw I think Sims: Medieval Life would be a good title. :happy

Very cool. I can't comment on anything mechanical because I don't know RM2 very well, but I think the idea is neat. I hope you pull out all the stops with this, and add to the original game a little. I know the AI codes would take up some room...or I assume they would, but there's still so much you could do with that basic engine.

Yeah I plan to add as much of the original sims as I can, the full game will have the customization creation implemented, the demo won't. The AI so far has been relatively smooth, but its only a matter of time before it starts to get bumpy.
Update: Fully working 100% customization:

It also works if you choose female model as well. The text at the end Talk Love Mean Funny is how the interaction menu is going to work with other sims.

Update: Each era will be divided into its own file, see it as an expansion if you will(Keeping the whole sims-esque thing going ;) ).
I will be posting detailed info soon about how jobs and how you affect your life as well as others in this game. Stay tuned!

Trust me, even if you can't understand or don't like an RPGM, it's still worth owning for the sake of playing other games.
Currently working on getting jobs to function properly.
But whilst you wait check out my little custom music tidbit:

This is so cool. It seems like you have quite a handle on some really neat RPG Maker 2 features. Keep the info coming!!

Very nice Drew. You are making great progress. By the way I love your custom music too.
Haha, thanks face, I hope to get a lot more done soon in the coming days and months.
Update: Finished a way to increase your Hygiene back to full, pretty much its a mini pool which other sims can use, and eventually can and will get dirty. Im still trying to figure out a decent way to show how you can train accuracy, any suggestions are always awesome. Once I fully finish male sims, I will release a demo. When will that be? Well the way it stands now, October~November, all depends on school and extra time and stuff. Check back for more updates :).
Newest update. Not entirely sure if I mentioned this yet, but you will be able to build your house over time. To start you are given enough wood (by me) to make a basic structure. After the structure is made your going to need to find trees to collect wood. Also, I've worked in where you need to gather raw materials to make a good bit of things, like your bed, your roof (you'll need to gather wood and palm fronds). Also, you will in time be able to upgrade your home (once you progress farther in your career. This is probably the last update (no clue) before Magcon. If worse comes to worse, I will have male sims working 100%, female sims will take a good bit more work (although I could just keep em in the kitchen...) Nah just kidding!

Update: Finished a nice bit of work on the game over the past couple of days. Added a mature setting filter for those of you who wish to not see pee, blood, and other things. Scrapped the whole on screen Inventory, relationships and such to a more polished looking menu system.

Pretty functional atm, still have a lot left to do. Also after much consideration this will be the only sims game I do. Making Sandbox type games on RPGM2 is very very time consuming. Thats not to say I won't make anything else, but after this version of the Sims is done, thats it for this series. You may ask, why not change the era? Well ive already done so much for a prehistoric type era that no way in hell am I starting over.
More Screenies:

Pretty big update:
Giving non-playable Sims life, what does this mean exactly? Well say for example Hie needs to go to the bathroom, she will check for the nearest tree and do her business, and return to what she was doing, ive only tested this on paper not 100% sure its gonna work fully, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Also It would give the game much needed activity, like say you yourself use up all the meat supply, none of the Sims can eat at all, which in turn they come after you and complain haha. I'll need to think of ways so that they can/will ignore their needs if they want to sometimes. If I can get an example of what I was talking about done soon, ill post one. Also, Im making it possible to have 8 friends at a time, pre-set friends but you don't have to befriend them all.

HUGE update coming within the next few days, check back soon!

Ah, too bad. It was still cool, and got a lot of people to really re-think what could be done with the software, so it wasn't a wasted effort.

Yeah, indeed. I just couldn't get it to go in the direction I wanted it to.
Did I miss something? Is the game still in production?

You could still release what you had as a tech demo. Maybe I could LP it at some point.
Hrmm yeah I guess I could, honestly there wasn't much to work with even for a tech demo =/ (Except making characters). I may do that, and yeah 1ce I can't get the direction I envisioned for this to work.
I would also recommend putting it up as a tech demo. Maybe it can teach someone to do something more advanced. Too bad this wouldn't work out.
I'm really sad that you stopped making this, I was really looking forward to it. What you've accomplished thus far is incredible!
Hope to see more stuff like this from you in the future! Best of luck.
