How funny would it be if it turned out to be exactly what it says, a "new title." Like they're tacking a subtitle on RE5 and trying to drum up excitement about it.

no it's not.

When making Lost Planet, they specifically made the game engine so that it could serve as an engine for a new Megaman Legends game. this was revealed last year, I think?

Keiji Inafune has been trying to get capcom to fund a new game in the series for years. it was his staff's hope that having an engine ready ahead of time (thus trimming the cost down considerably) would help get them the green light.

they've been trying to show there's still a market for the game with the 2 japanese PSP re-releases of the legends games, but those flopped. oddly, the double pack of the games that was released earlier this year was not a flop, and sold out at capcom's online store in a matter of minutes.

Inafune WILL get another game in the series made. it's going to take a while, but it will happen. he's been working his way up the chain of command at capcom, and eventually he'll get high enough up that no one can tell him "no".

They did just recently bury the Breath of Fire franchise.
