As I mentioned in another thread, I've got probably 13 virtual memory cards of RPGM3 games on my PS3 right now, most of which contain 2 or 3 files. A few are duplicate builds, etc, but most are unfinished "works-in-progress" that'll probably never be finished. I do not want to do a wholesale Pav dump of all this stuff, but I'm thinking of sifting through some of it, polishing them up a bit, and releasing a few of the more complete ones in demo form.

I need some input as to whether or not you think it's a good idea to do something like this (if I do, I'm going to try to get 2-3 out this year), or would I be better off choosing one and finishing it (that'll probably never happen), or continue work on my current project? When I installed my new HDD on my PS3, I lost any work on projects I had done after mid January, which probably also includes my minigame thing I was planning on submitting. Granted, that's a semi-easy fix (just delete all the extraneous stuff in the file that pertained to the actual game it was supposed to be a part of, and make a "hub" with warps), but my "main" current project also no longer has the 6-7 hours I spent experimenting with aesthetics. Now that I've played around enough with the invisible event models, and switching them to place stuff on top of other stuff, etc, I'm sure I could replicate it, but it'll be a hassle.

So, main question remains...should I just leave all this stuff on my memory cards, never to see the light of day, or should I polish a few up to release periodically throughout the year?

Also, a question for Wave: from what you played of S3, giving the disclaimer that it is in NO WAY anywhere close to a complete build, do you think it would be worth releasing as a demo to the general public, or should I throw a ton more hours into it to give it some sort of "goal"? Right now, it's basically an open-ended programming experiment, and I'm not sure how much actual "play value" it has in its current state.

release the ones that are worthy to be released and do so under one zip. have it all open source so people and check them out as necessary and see if they like anything done in them. maybe someone might get something good out of them?

I don't know exactly how the virtual memory cards work, but I like the idea of polishing up a few of your experimental games for a real release.

If it were me, I'd avoid deleting anything until I ran out of room, but if you feel you'd be more productive by going into "spring cleaning" mode, and deleting at once all the files you don't think will ever see more work done on them, then maybe that would be a good way too.

As to Series 3, my recommendation would be to either wait until you've added more gameplay, or give it more of a "goal," or both. I think what's there now is a nice teaser because it's obvious that it's just brimming with potential, but at the same time the lack of payoff might really put some people off right now.

Perhaps have a "private playtest" in the meantime for people who really just want to check it out, but assuming your goal is to garner the largest audience possible for the full S3, I think there are better ways to do a demo than the current form.

Running out of room will never be a problem. I've got 149 free GBs of space, and 1 virtual memory card is the same size as one on the PS2, 8 MB. I'll never even START that many more RPGM games in the rest of my life. So, no...I'm not planning on deleting anything; I just was contemplating getting some stuff out there rather than have it sitting on my PS3, doing nobody any good.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

Ah, I see now. I originally interpreted "Pav dump" the wrong way. Anyway, the idea of polishing a couple of games for release would work really well, I think. Let us know what you decide to do!

I would keep the games that I think I like and I can finish making the game(I as in you).
