Ive been going through about 60 or so chapters over the last few days to catch up again, and DAAAAAAAMN. Its like everything after Thriller Bark is way better than it has any right to be. Im up to the new stuff now where Luffy is trying to bust out Ace.

Random pages I thought were awesome. Hell Id like to post every page from the crew saving Caime from the slave auction to the end of the Amazon Island. That entire "arc" was kickass.

Its good. Like really good. And I hate **** like Bleach and Naruto that has also has a hundreds of chapters. Just something about One Piece, and its pirates and amazing adventures. Its just good wholesome fun, and not super serious I MUST TRAIN TO BE THE STRONGEST EVER, MUST KEEP TRAINING.

Theres also lots of comedy thrown into the mix, and lots of parts that made me tear up and get all misty eyed like a little school girl. Im lookin' at you chapter 430!

I'm glad to see One Piece left behind it's horrible Shonen-esque art from like the years of 2002-2006 where it seemed like Oda was trying to conform to Bleach's style.

The best thing about One Piece is the character designs and like Mora said it feels "stupid" because it's supposed to be stupid. For one, Oda parodies the traditional Shonen stereotypes (like the useless female lead who just acts as a pair of tits; plenty of tits in his comic but the women actually control the story on the sidelines). His character design also breaks with tradition by adding visual quirks to the characters instead of focusing on the traditional Japanese manga theme of "young and beautiful." It's obvious from the art that he's more inspired by the European greats of the 70s like Enki Bilal and Moebius.

It really started to drag its feet but now it's been kicked in the ass and getting better.

Again, examples of him reaching out to other cultures to inspire his art. He still uses the typical manga symbolism (big head + sharp teeth and vein to indicate anger etc) but for the most part he'll just draw his characters stretching and squashing in a variety of shapes.

I think people take it too seriously. It's a fun serial and the continuity pretty much resets itself after each story arc so aside from the new characters you can pretty much pick it up at the beginning of any story arc and still have fun.

I used to read the manga. However, I greatly dislike the style of the anime. I don't like the lines and the colors always look very washed out and "off" to me.

The manga is pretty good. It's stupid, yet it can also be exciting and amusing. The villains and characters are better than the ones found in most shonen manga. I also love all the strange creatures that Oda dreams up.

The fights are usually pretty fun, but I don't always enjoy the sentimental junk. Everyone tears up in a giant tear and snot explosion! Blub blub blub. I still don't feel sad. Let's get back to crazy fighting.

yeah it's really started to pick up now that they were almost at the HALFWAY POINT of their "voyage"(*checks watch* hey, only took ten years) and the entire crew is now split up and they've taken a huge side story side trip. sure, they'll be getting to that one piece aaaaaany day now. not the second coming of dragon ball at aaaaallll.

seriously though, it drags. if you think you don't have at least a decade of this crap left, you're probably crazy. when you're 35 and you have to explain to your wife what you're doing on the internet at 2 in the morning, perhaps the realization of just how drawn out the series is will come

They have to put in fillers so the manga can have a healthy head start. It just happens.
