    Britain destroyed in recent blizzard

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...heres-way.html

Britain is facing a £3billion blizzard bill after being caught napping by the winter weather.

The heaviest snowfall in 18 years brought the nation to a standstill, crippling businesses, transport networks, hospitals and schools - and further hammering the recession-hit economy.

A fifth of the national workforce - 6.4million - are estimated not to have turned up yesterday.

And those who did struggle in were angry that their journey was made even harder because transport planners appeared woefully unprepared - despite the Met Office having issued extreme weather warnings as long ago as Thursday.
The problems could get worse with more snow expected overnight and today, and the prospect of temperatures plummeting to -6C making the conditions even more icily treacherous.
    10 inches of snow......-6 C..........

God damn. If they got what we had here where it was -20 to -30 for a few months EVERY DAY, and had way more snow, I think they all would have died, and the country would implode in on itself.

Man, I definitely would've been part of that fifth of the workforce if I had a job.

I wonder, sometimes, how some cities prepare for bad whether. I mean, Boston gets bad snowstorms every year, and yet every time it happens the trains are crippled and major streets go unplowed for days.

Not to mention the fact that the corner of every intersection is designed to catch all melting snow and slush, making ambulatory passage effectively impossible. It's like someone made Boston using Sim City and forgot to put in rain gutters anywhere.

What? We have to feel sorry because they have to endure what a lot of endure every other day for months on end?

Ah, global warming seems to have jacked up the weather for everyone.

Regardless, it's difficult for me to feel sorry for people who choose to live in places where the weather is really bad (or really cold).

If you willingly subject yourself to that because that's exactly where you want to live, fine. But don't expect me to have much sympathy for your "plight" when the **** goes down.

Yeah, it's kind of like feeling sorry for New Orleans.

HEY! YOU BUILT YOUR CITY IN A BOWL BELOW SEA LEVEL!

I dunno, some people don't have a choice. Like, youngin's, or people who need work.

We had a snow storm that dumped 37.6- 59 inches of snow on NS a few years ago.

"The wind combined with the intense snow rates produced visibilities of 1 metre or less in most areas for brief periods however these conditions persisted for at least 8 hours in much of Nova Scotia. The wind also whipped up snow drifts which in some cases covered two and three storey buildings and made many roads impassable to both common motor vehicles and snow removal equipment."

Look at the cars in this photo.

I already know that not everyone can decide where they want to live. But for people that do (and then ***** about it) I have no pity.

It's like people that choose to live in Florida. You might have trouble getting homeowners insurance there... and you'll have to pay more, for some reason.

And this is what a lot of people here in NS did when they were snowed in...

                          Thats awesome.

We are still getting little bits of snow here and there out here in Kamloops. Still snow all over the place too, but its starting to warm up a bit.

                            That's way too much snow.

Today in Texass it was 78F (about 25C). I can handle that.

We got a storm yesterday afternoon/last night but we didn't get too much. It switched from snow to ice pelts and everything is icy as hell. It's snowing again today too.
