    Why do people...

... write their names inside of the instruction manuals? And why is it so hard to find certain old games that haven't been written on, ****** on, smoked on, run over by a car, and beat to hell? Just because you list your item as mint, doesn't mean it's true.

EDIT: Does anyone know when GameStop is going to have another buy 2 get 1 free sale?

What'd you buy that had a name on the inside of the instruction manual?

Beats the ol' name on the cartridge from the old days. I remember looking for a used copy of pokemon snap at gamestop this one time, found a copy and it had the name of this kid I hated on it. I did not buy the game.

Marcus' Universal Rules for Buying Used Games

        1. All used games were owned by smokers.
        2. Nobody in the 90s kept their boxes.
        3. If it came with extras (music cd, bonus disc, stickers) it won't be in the box.
        4. Nobody reads manuals. Somewhere in a landfill are tonnes and tonnes of manuals.
        5. If the seller describes it as mint and rare in the same sentence it will either have coffee stained manual or stepped on case.

My guess is president's day weekend or close to the end of tax season once everyone gets their stimulus check.

so many people out there dont treat their games with respect.

as for names on everything, you just have to look to the age group that the game was most likely bought for. its a parents habit to write the name of the owner on everything to keep other kids from stealing it. i lend a book to my friends brother and his mom wrote my name on the inside - NEVER DEFILE MY BOOKS!

i try very hard to get the best when i buy online but its very hard to get something half decent. there is a ton of scammers out there looking to mislead you into paying more for something thats a piece of ****.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

            Re: Why do people...

My old copy of Silent Hill had some kids name scribbled all over the damn thing. In the disc. On all the inserts. On all sides of the manual. What a douchebag move.

My favorite story of people writing in game manuals:

Someone wrote on the instruction manual of Devil May Cry 2: "This game sucks balls" and the Gamestop employee sold it to me like that. I noticed it when I got home, popped the game in, beat it in one sitting and thought to myself "The person who had this before knew what he was talking about." So I went back there the next day, showed the clerk and asked if they had any other manuals. I show him the one I got, and he laughs to himself "Yeah, it kind of does." They didn't have any other copies of the game, so he let me return it and I got something else. HAPPY ENDING.

Fun fact: I always check the game discs and instructions manuals the second I get in my car after buying used, after this little 'incident'.

Fun Fact: I don't buy used until I've approved the product with my own eyes and hands. Just like I do with hookers.

I got a DS and Chrono Trigger "used" but practically new condition for 70$.

Damn it feels good to be a pawn broker.

                  Re: Why do people...

I don't put my name on my games or in the manual, box, etc. That's stupid.

I have a few old SNES, NES and N64 games with full or last names on them (my favorite is CHAD FRYMIRE). If it's a rare game that I've been looking for, I'll usually overlook that (if it's sold at a decent price). I've also found stuff at garage sales and flea markets. You can't be too picky when you're sifting through other people's old crap.

Ever since I got a used copy of silent hill 2 with one of those ****ing blockbuster rental stickers on it (covers the entire disc, makes it unbalanced), I always check the condition of the game before I leave the store. I'll even ask the clerk for the real box or manual if it's missing or damaged.

I just don't care anymore. If I saw Phantasy Star IV without a box and a **** scribbled on Alys, I'd buy it anyway.

I just sold my copy of Dragon Quest VIII today. This topic just made me remember that my girlfriend had wrote my name in silver Sharpie on the inner case since I had loaned it out to a friend and we wanted to make sure it got back to me.

I got you beat, Rick. When my local game/movie rental store, "Boxcar Video" began selling off their SNES and Genesis games to make room for presumably more movies and some Playstation games, I had arrived too late to get the pick of the litter(like Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia and FFVI) but I did happen upon all three Genesis Phantasy Star games. I got them all for $6. TWO DOLLARS EACH.

But the first three are horrible.

As for a gamestop sale, I'll ask Kirin for you.
                              ...and that's why.
