Why Do JRPGs Have So Many Sequels?

One of the main reasons I can't play JRPGs is because most of them have so many damn sequels that it's overwhelming. Especially if these vidyas are so damn long to play.

I don't know how you guys can stomach it but you deserve medals.

Persona 4? when did that happen?

THESE JRPGs ARE DRIVING ME MAAAAAAAAAD.

japan style rpg. you can easily recognize it by characters with humongous swords, millions of unnecessary belts, and outfits that look pop boy band singers.

if it comes from japan and it's an rpg it's a jrpg used to distinguish from wrpg which is pretty much anything from america/europe

The first Persona game came out in 1996.

Persona 4 was released in 2008.

So three sequels to a game in twelve years doesn't seem like a lot.

              I'm not following your logic.

Re: Why Do JRPGs Have So Many Sequels?

Originality + big production budget + massive population of gamers that won't buy anything that doesn't have a number attached to it= failure

Also, if Final Fantasy is a good example, most JRPG sequels aren't actually sequels, they're just a new game with a (usually) similar play mechanic or story concept. They are titled as sequels as a marketing strategy.

And, um, since 90% of these movies aren't true sequels anyhow, what's the problem? It entails another game in the same style as a game that everyone liked. I dunno, I consider that a good thing, not a reason not to play the first game in the first place.

Edit: Oh, and Persona 4 "happened" in December '08, and it was basically God's gift to video games.

Because sometimes they don't or hardly add anything (worth any value) at all.

                          See the Tales series.

Need more Chrono games. Even if Chrono Cross was mediocre. That series has potential. Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are running out of steam.
