New Shining Force on DS?

I can't believe this was reported so long ago and I knew nothing about it. Granted, I was jobless and wandering the country and paying very little attention to such things. If this gets localized, I'll be knee deep in the closest thing to real Shining Force since the GBA remake of Shining Force 1.

I'm guardedly optimistic about it getting brought over here. {=3

It sounds like it won't play like the original games. I never played NEO or EXA, but weren't they mediocre at best? I'd be a lot more excited if they were molding this more tightly after the main series.

Retro Gaming Magazine did a fantastic article on the history of Shining Force.

Might have to scan it to share with the pavies who are big fans (I forget isn't mora a shining force geek)

Hell, i've got most of the Shining games. I have Shining Force 1 & 2 on the Genesis, Shining Force remake for the GBA, Shining Tear, Shining Force Neo and Exa...and i think i have Shining Soul on the GBA as well, but i havent been able to find some of my games since the move, and i'm missing my copy of Daxter for the PSP as well.

I'd get Shining Force 3 if i could get it for less than $50, I'd even buy a Saturn if i could get the game.

Anyway, Shining Force MADE the tactical RPG. And what do they do with that innovation? Do they develop it, and hone their legacy? No, they copy Star Ocean's battle engine. And not once, but several times. It was up to games like Arc the Lad to add further innovations like radial movements, and FFT and scores of other tactical RPG's to take up the torch.

Though I haven't played the PS2 as the changes in gameplay turned me off on it, or the remake as I don't own any handheld.

But 1, 2, 3, and CD are still there waiting me to play any time.

Holy CRAP, i just checked Ebay and Shining Force 3 is going for around $150 if not more.

Damn it Sega, RE-RELEASE SHINING FORCE 3 FOR ANY CURRENT GEN SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!!

These games hold up surprisingly well and I have to say I admire the simplified playing style of Shining Force games in comparison to, say, Final Fantasy Tactics or Disgaea where you constantly have to micromanage and grind grind grind. I'd say that the evolution of Shining Force's playing style would be more in lieu with the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars titles.

Damn, the GBA was the portable king of tactical warfare.

I liked Shining Tear once I forced myself to disassociate it with the rest of the series. Pretty graphics.

See, the shining series has always contained 3 general types of game: Tactical (a-la shining force 1-3), head-on 4-member-party RPGs (a-la Shining in the Darkness and Shining the Holy Ark), and action RPG's (a-la Shining Tears, Shining Soul, Shining Wisdom). The only ones that were called 'Shining Force' were the tactical games, and it meant a certain thing when you heard the words 'shining force' in the title.

I've been teased with the news of a 'new Shining Force game' too many times now, only to have my hopes dashed by games that have almost nothing to do with the original games. The fact that they call them things like 'Shining Force Neo' (new shining force) doesn't bode well for them ever going back to their tactical roots, which kills me.

Dammit.

Not so, Obright. Fire Emblem established all of that before Shining Force did (even though Shining Force II is my favorite strategy RPG).
