Im selling my TV, how much you think I can get?

Its a 32" ENVISION L32W461 (LCD HDTV 1080i, Xbawks looks great on it). Id LOVE to be able to get as much as I possibly can for it, but I dunno. What do you guys think is a reasonable price to ask for it in Canada dollars?



Back when I first bought it, it was $699, but I bought the 3 year product service plan from Future Shop for an extra $200. It expires April 10th, next year. Basically if ANYTHING is wrong with it, Future Shop will fix it. If they have to fix it more than 3 times, or cant fix it, they will replace it with whatever they have that is a similar product of equal price, since new versions of everything are always coming out. I can transfer the warranty over to the new owner.

Right now at my work, we have 32" Vizio and Element (similar second-tier TVs) for $400 brand new, and you can get a 42" 720p Panasonic plasma for $699.

So realistically, I think you'd be able to get about $250-$300 American (not sure what the exchange rate is) if you're selling it to someone naive.

If the TV is worth it's salt you shouldn't need to buy a damn warranty.

If I bought one for mine, it would have cost $500. No thanks.

I only buy them on expensive things. Cheap stuff I can replace if it breaks, but big stuff like TVs, its nice to have it. Most times, if somethings going to break or burn out its going to happen in the first year or two. So its nice to have the replacement plan to get it fixed up for free. If it doesnt break in those first few years, there a pretty good chance its going to last a long ass time.

The company that offers you the warranty knows how likely the TV is to break, and they've factored that into the price of the warranty. Most of the time the appliance isn't going to break, and even if it does, the cost of fixing it is often less than the price of the warranty. If it wasn't, they wouldn't offer one at all, because it would cost them money.

Why do you think they're so incessant about selling you a warranty? Its because they're making a killing off of them. Its like going to casino. They have the edge.

Yeah, but just because they're making a ton of money off warranties doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad deal for Crunk, since his level of wealth might cause him to value money differently than a large company.

For example, say a $1,000 TV has a 1% chance of self-destructing, costing the full $1,000 to replace. How much would you be willing to pay for a guarantee that the TV wouldn't break? $10? $50?

The company offering the warranty could make money on average by charging just over $10. Of course, they'd charge more than that since there's a chance things don't behave like they should on average. But there can at least conceivably be a situation where it is in both Crunk's and the manufacturer's best interest to take the warranty.

I'm not saying this particular warranty is worth it, since I don't know anything about the product; I'm just saying getting a warranty is not a crazy thing to consider.

Going Price on Ebay, and local Craigslist seems to be in the $250-$400 range for similar TVs. Like I was telling Den, I would loooooooove, to be able to get $500 for it, but I dont see that happening.

Ill chuck it up on Craigslist this week, for like $400, and see if I get any biters.

Don't necessarily want to get between Crunk unloading his TV and Gloom cheaping out, but meh.



Seriously, a 32" is WAY, WAY too small if you are used to looking at a 37". Not only is it 5" smaller, but to your eye, it'll appear even smaller than that, as tube TVs are more square, and LCDs are more rectangular. Recommended viewing distance for a 32" is about 5-6 feet. 7 feet, and you're pushing it.


Plus, I can't vouch for the quality of Best Buy's house brand.


It's up to you, though. Word of advice...cheaping out in the short term leads to disappointment in the long term.

32" is just fine for me, especially when I had my own place, I'd be laying way back on my couch accross the living room and could see it just fine.
