    i hate the word "let's"

me and english have never gotten along. today this reached a climax as ive discovered just how much i hate some of the words.

so here i am going through the final playthrough of Crystal Shores, my rpg maker game, and i noticed that much of the spelling is crap. not a problem, i can edit it without too much concern.

yet one word kept getting in my way. the word "let's" was missing the ' in every instance i used it, and i used it a lot. as i kept changing them i read the sentences over and found that i didnt like the word at all, that it felt like slang or disjointed. i became fed up with seeing it so often and changed entire paragraphs of words just so i wouldnt have to use it.

do you people hate a word out of our english language? i know there are a few more that i dislike, or places where they are used that i dont like.

Keep in mind the word "it's" is just a contraction of "it is". Pretty sure that's the only use of the apostrophe in there.

I didn't understand how you don't like "it is". If anything just put in a space and add an i.

Though we speak the language, English is actually one of the hardest languages in the world to master. Don't let it get you down. Even the best of us make an error or two, and when that happens, my friend John Mora the Perfect will set me straight. :P

I hate the word "ignorant". My whole family couldn't use that word in its right context even if their lives depended on it. They think it means "rude", but I tried to show them it means "to have little knowledge". It drives me nuts.

I think you dislike it because you have no idea how to use it.

You're pretty ignorant of my reason for hating the word "ignorant".

Re: i hate the word "it's"

Just so you're clear, Karr, the word, "it's" means, "it is," not the possessive form of it, as in, "Find a dog, honk its nose."

And why was I not surprised that your long-in-the-making epic RPGM1 game would be rife with spelling errors? Again, something tells me that it MIGHT have been more prudent and time-effective to run the thing through a spellcheck DURING creation of the game and not during the playtest/bugtest process.

And to answer your question, I think anyone who considers him or herself a grammar Nazi, which I do to a large extent, actually is quite fond of the English language, and winces a bit when Karr-esque sentences are posted.

Advice for the game: REALLY, REALLY take the time to eliminate most if not all of the spelling errors. Nothing would make your game nigh unplayable in a lot of people's eyes than having to wince a bit every time a spelling error occured. Unless your main character is named Karr, in which case it would be perfectly understandable.

Not meant as a rip or a dig, Karr, but as much time as you've apparently spent on this thing, I think the last thing you want is to have it come stumbling out of the game due to a bunch of spelling errors and typos.

EDIT: YAY!!! I began typing this response as the first one directly below Karr's, and in the time it took to type, another seven appeared.

You're also missing the apostrophe in "I've" and "Didn't" and "Wouldn't" and "Don't" and "Isn't". I'm sure you're game is rife with missing apostrophes, butchered spelling and missing capitalization. I have a feeling there is no way your game is going to have dialogue that meets fifth grade English standards, so don't feel too disheartened by this one little word.

Do you think they meant "insolent" or "impudent"?

You have no idea how many times that messed me up. I always mix the two up. Because about every other word the possessive has a 's at the end. "Michael's dog is fat." The one word in the english language that drives me bananas.
