so my new zune deleted my entire music collection

with a single sweep of the finger i managed to erase over 10 years of music gathering. 20 gigs of much of it irreplaceable music has vanished and now im left trying to recover it.

i set my recycle bin to axe files after a certain cap and 20 gigs of course met that. i have to try to make these idiotic recovery programs try to capture at least the stuff that i cant get back. its times like these that have me wishing i did do a back up.

no program but explorer folder should be allowed to erase files. give more warning at the very least, let me know my decision using this program will result in axing my entire music collection!

system restore is woefully inaccurate at times like this. sign, live and learn


edit: update, im ****ed. i used a system restore program and it would only take bits and pieces of the songs and restored them. help, i need to recover this music.

use hard drive data recovery tools, methinks. the data should still be technically there, it's just been designated as clearable and gradually being written over.

just don't put anything else on your zune between now and when you recover your music. it'll make it impossible to recover more and more of the songs.

ive recovered as much of my stuff as my computer will allow. somehow its woefully less then what i originally had but i managed to save a few files that arnt replaceable. im going to have to put all my damn cds back on, find all my old torrents and hope that the few places i squeezed songs out of still exist.

no, my entire music collection is 20 gigs or so, but you asked what music was irreplaceable. the hard to get stuff is perhaps a couple hundred songs or so.

i deleted music from my new zune, thinking it would just exclude it from the list so i could start again and only put on the music i wanted without having to sort through it. i didnt know that the doing so would also erase it off of my hard drive. youd expect to have some kind of confirmation warning you about that.

That's weird, unless there was some sort of major software change I do distinctly remember getting some sort of prompt about if I were removing music/picturse/video from merely my zune collection or from my computer when I was cleaning out my computer not too long ago.

But maybe that was buried in the options or something.
