Sometimes when I'm bored I play "Dear Brave Heart" again (without saving over my game-I'm not stupid). I tolerate it, but there's always all those things that can be made better with less space used. Than I got an idea: I'm going to try to make my own version of Dear Brave heart. I'm going to replase most of the cut scenes with message displays, eliminate all the "sample" garbage (Ethelion will have the Resist ring), and change the map so it doesn't suck. Once I'm done, I'll build a game around it and hade Dear Brave heart as a bonus game found as a minigame.

Re: Dear Brave Heart: the "bonus" game
Why not just make a prequel or seaquel game? I mean, in DBH you only caught like 2 or 3 of the demons, and even if they count all the hero cards for some reason as part of that total, there's still another 38 or so that need to be dispached.
And, honestly, DBH wasn't really all that great of a game in the first place. You've had better ideas than this one in the past, IMHO.A God from the Machine - Menander

Re: Dear Brave Heart: the "bonus" game
They get 4 demons.
While I don't dislike the idea of an improved DBH, I like the idea of a sequel more... DBH just left off after the fourth demon, probably in a deliberate attempt to get someone to write a sequel. I myself would like to know what happens to Ethelion and friends.

I think it was more than likely just to put some kind of 1/2 thought up game on the software so that you at least have S O M E T H I N G to tie RM3 to the rest of the RM's being that Valk is quite outspoken in letting everyone know they aren't from the same series...Originally posted by Dusk Raven View PostThey get 4 demons.

They could have made a short story that came to a full conclusion with just as little effort.Originally posted by MagusMartovich View PostI think it was more than likely just to put some kind of 1/2 thought up game on the software so that you at least have S O M E T H I N G to tie RM3 to the rest of the RM's being that Valk is quite outspoken in letting everyone know they aren't from the same series...
I never play more than a couple hours of the sample games, though I occasionally do look through their data. Gobli and Fu-Ma weren't bad, it's just that they weren't really fun, either. (DBH on the other hand, I will say it was bad.)

Re: Dear Brave Heart: the "bonus" game
Right! But as far as bad ideas go, spinning an idea off of someone else's bad idea just seems like a bad idea in itself. If there's any sort of mention of DBH in the spinoff itself, people are going to instantly associate the pain and horror they felt playing DBH with your game.
Not to mention that as far as base ideas go, DBH was pretty lame. Its a seek and destroy, no one ever gets any stronger, and survival is 100% dependant on their equipment and scads of healing items, as well as exploring nigh on 100% of the map to make sure that Ethelion has the correct (ie: BEST POSSIBLE) skill to waste the boss of the current area in 2 or 3 triggers.
In my mind it would be like making a game based entirely on the Poision effect. The game would be long, drawn out, boring to a fault, and have such little to no strategy that people might no make it through the first fight before they decide to pack it in and log on to the Pav in order to flame your game.A God from the Machine - Menander

Re: Dear Brave Heart: the "bonus" game
Okay, I've played through the game a bunch of times too, but mostly just to try and find all the items drops and the special dead people that give you better skills. That doesn't mean that I didn't hate every second of it, though! I was hospitalized! It was rally touch and go for a while there...
j/k but, its not a well made game. I almost hesitate when I say this, but if DBH is more fun that your game is, you need to pack it in, and start over. Like don't quit your day job, and whatnot...A God from the Machine - Menander

Re: Dear Brave Heart: the "bonus" game
Maybe you should think about either getting another memory card, or cleaning yours out a bit...
It really doesn't take much space just to save your game, does it? I don't know, since I have 3 memory cards and never really had to pay attention to how much space a game save takes up... Anyways, I thought the sample game was pretty good for a beginner, as it can show them many things that are possible to do with RPGM3, although much, much more is possible for us Pavilionites :P
