    HI!!

Hello the pavilion mates i only just go RPGM 3 and thought i would make a game.
Anyway i have a very limited understanding of it so it probably wont be that great... BUT! im not here to nag people for advice I'm here for tips on story
    THE STORY:
A young boy named Arad is a dream-gazer a person who sees the future in his dreams. Lately he keeps having the same dream about him and his dog Speck
And a mysterious woman named Wendy and them running from something and her almost dieing, and know he is on a quest to find and protect her.
That is what I've got so far and anything you could add would bee great.

    1) Welcome to the pav!

    2) We're pavilionites, not pavilion mates

    3) Sounds good. Just steer clear of the "Dark Lord" and "Ancient evil" garbage.
For a plot twist, make the woman one of the major villains or something.

      Re: HI!!

Although it does sound rather cliche, it's not a bad start for a first RPG game. I would flesh out the story a bit more, and check out the "Big list of RPG Cliches" somewhere on the internet, or you can ask many of the experienced people here on the Pav.

As for what we can add, we can only inspire you to explore and open up the story on your own. I would reccommend playing or checking out some of the games/stories presented here on the Pavilion. Don't rip them off or anything of course, but they contain valuable information that may inspire you to fill up your story!

Any welcome to the Pav! We are glad to have you!

        Re: HI!!

Speck is Pee Wee Herman's dog's name, too.

I have no real advice or insights on the story you've presented, besides working on your in-game dialogue in a spell-checker on the PC before typing it into a game.

I guess I like the idea of seeing the future in dreams. I have one of my many shelved game ideas SORT OF similar to this, but really, completely different.

        Good luck.

If I may ask, any idea what that something is?

            Re: HI!!

hello again... anyway the evil thing i was thinking of giving up and just doing the damn ancient evil thing UNTIL nerd gave me the idea of Wendy (lol only normal sounding name in the whole game so far) being the main villain, but i really wanted her to be a main good character so then i went on to thinking about multiple personalities and so on, but ill give it the old JRPG/Manga twits which i love but never make any scene. That's all I'm going to say i don't want to give too much away and i do know I'm not the greatest at spelling but for now meh, stuff it... Oh one last thing hoe do you make an event to collect something for someone from a store or house(Yes i realize i said i wasn't going to nag for advice but I'm too lazy to look around) And for one last thing the will be a hidden character who is super strong and only has one attack called DEATH TO ALL!!!! this character will be easy-ish to find but in plain sight so tell me what you think of that.
PS: does anyone know where to find a good RPGM3 guide because i kinda maybe found my copy on the ground of the internet heh heh....heh.

It's hard to do it through a store, because the game doesn't keep track of which normal items a player bought.

Through a house is easy, you can either use a treasure item or fake it with variables. In a house, have an NPC (as part of their event code) give the player a Treasure Item, or have them give the player a unique normal item (that you can't find anywhere else) and increase a variable (that isn't being used anywhere else) to 1.

Now, the NPC who gave you the fetch quest in the first place, have one of their modes be set to Automatic, and either (depending on how you did the first part) "Requires Treasure Item X" or "Requires Variable Y to be equal to 1." In that mode, have the NPC thank the player and give them a reward, and remove the Treasure Item from the party, or remove the normal item and also set the variable to something other than 1.

That's the basic setup; just ask if anything confuses you.

And for one last thing the will be a hidden character who is super strong and only has one attack called DEATH TO ALL!!!! this character will be easy-ish to find but in plain sight so tell me what you think of that.
You make it sound like it will be easy to find, and will make all the battles way too easy. I can't think of anyone that will enjoy that. I mean, at that point, you might as well just remove the battles from your game, because there will be no apparent threat or challenge anymore.

PS: does anyone know where to find a good RPGM3 guide because i kinda maybe found my copy on the ground of the internet heh heh....heh.
There's no official guide for the game, but then again, the game really doesn't need one. Just play around with the game and ask on the net if you've got any questions. There are enough people who have entirely mastered RPGM3 that someone will always know the answer, though it could take a little while to get it.

                Re: HI!!

                Hi Arajuna.
I'm no expert, but this is what I do while developing a story

Try to have fun making it. What's the point on making something you are not enjoying?

If the game will focus heavily on story, ask yourself questions about it. You'll realize that while trying to answer your questions, you'll end up making a lot of background story.
To me, it's easier for me to think on the story, ending, and one or two major plot points or twist, but then I got stuck trying to fill anything in between them. So I need to ask myself, "If character A is going to get killed in place X, what will happen that leads the party to that place? and other questions like that.

I wouldn't say "Avoid cliches"... but will definitively say "Don't embrace cliches" So what if your story have an ancient evil? So what if you need to recover 4 crystal to defeat it?
So what if your hero is an orphaned farmer that finds a sword that awakens that evil and is banished from his village and needs the help of a mysterious girl with mystical powers? (You know what? scratch the last sentence )

I hope some of it helps.

Have other people look at your material, and get their feedback. This can help when you're unsure of something. It's really great for debugging.

                    Re: HI!!

I thank all of you for your help/advice and i really don't want my story to be to that cliched but if it comes to that i think it wouldn't be that bad. (I LIED )

It is only easy to find the character if you like exploring towns and maps i really haven't decided where to put her yet.
The story is alright I guess but i haven't really made any more improvement on it because my PS2 was pack for the holidays, it will probably be set up maybe tomorrow.
what do you guys think about this Memories:The Forgotten Future as the tittle?
And i still really don't get variables, most of the menus and all the Npc creation because I'm use to the computer RPG makers.
Thank you once again for your help

                      I like that title myself.

                      I know there's a tutorial around here somewhere...ah, here http://www.rpgmpavilion.com/index.php?page=rm3tutorial

This should help with whatever you have problems with.

Variables work the same way as they do in the computer RPG Makers.

                          Re: HI!!

i do realize that they work the same but i never used them AT ALL
So this is why i have really no idea on most things. To be perfectly honest I'm really inexperienced with any RPG makers at all the most I've done is made a small game with no real depth to it so this will be very hard for me.
I'm hoping for a demo maybe mid-late Jan possibly Feb.
                          Thanks for all your help
