I'll be using this thread to post updates on my game. Comments and constructive criticism (constructive criticism: the act of pointing out a fault(s) and suggesting ways of improving it) are encouraged. :)

Over the past three weeks I've been trying to build a castle, and so far it hasn't been exactly easy. I started with the outside of the castle first. The outside of the castle is divided into six sections, with each section being made in the Building Editor using all 512 available blocks. I actually didn't make section six yet, but I'll get to that eventually. Here's what the outside of the castle is going to look like. I had to use MS Paint to illustrate it because I don't own a camera. Also, my drawing skills aren't very good (i.e. they suck).

Note: Each section is outlined in green, with section 1 being the castle's entrance.

I haven't finished the interior yet, in fact, I'm not even close to being done with it. I do have the interior of the tower in section 1 finished, though. And just to give you an idea of how meticulous I am, I redesigned the section of interior 1 five times. The story goes like this.

The interior for section 1 was small the first time I built it. I redesigned it again and made it bigger. I redesigned it once more and made it even bigger, this time using all 1024 available blocks in the Dungeon Editor. I was about to call it finished when--oh snap! The interior doesn't conform to the shape of what the tower looks like when you view it from the outside. I redesigned it once more, while still using all 1024 blocks. Just when I thought I was done, finally done, it turns out I wasn't.... I realized that the shape I made it was too oval, and that it had to look more circular. So, I redesigned it AGAIN. * ‬Here is another MS Paint sketch to show what the interior of the tower looks like now that it's in its final form. Note: This is a rough sketch, and it look more circular in-game.

I don't know why I designed it this way. I might just scrap the whole design and start over because design issue might arise with the way it is now. I'm definitely no architect, I'll tell you that. I'm also kinda worried about memory space because of how big the environments are going to be.

I still don't haven't finished my story yet. I plan on writing the rest of it after I make the castles for Rasual, Idenane, and Pladin. Well, if anyone can give me advice on anything, I'd really appreciate it.

I don't really have much to say about the story. As for the designs, they sound good, perhaps some screen shots? Also when you have very high block counts, you have to be careful with lag. The higher the block count, the less events you can have on the screen, just a thought. I'm sure you already know this, but the DE tool is pretty powerful an I strongly encourage using artistic license when making your dungeons.

Update

I haven't been working on my game that much until recently. Playing Lausen's demo of HC: MoD really inspired me to work on it again.

I found out I couldn't make my envirorments nearly as big as I wanted them to be because of memory constraints. So, about 40 hours of work were wasted. This was a blessing in disguise because it means a lot less work from now on. I built about 40% of the castle's interior, with the outside now complete. But I still have a long way to go before I can call it finished.

I'm making some solid progress on my castle. I'm about about 60% done with it.

After it's complete, I'd like a couple of people to take a look at it to make sure I'm heading in the right direction. Would a couple of people mind volunteering?
