Computers Suck (Problem May Be Solved)

Okay, I know that technology breaks down, but it doesn't make this any less infuriating.

Up until Saturday, this PC worked just fine and dandy. Then, come Sunday morning it began randomly freezing, and it was very frequently. It started taking turns from freezing within 2 minutes of starting up and just showing a blank screen when I turn the PC on.

First I thought the fans were out since I've been hearing (still do, as I type this) a loud rattling sound inside the tower that sometimes is quiet to being loud enough to wake up a household. Also, non-functioning fans will overheat and lock up PCs, but the fans still work.

I used system restore, and it helped for awhile. When it started acting up again I then reformatted the hard drive. Now my desktop is bare, and the random freezing is still there.

So, any suggestions? Specific hardware malfunctions? A virus that I cannot get rid of without a certain anti-virus program? Any help is appreciated.

(I also used device manager to no avail. Only ! marks were on device controllers... unless I'm dumb and those are the problem.)

EDIT: It appears to be the video card. Now the Pavilion is HUGE and covered in spots. Hooray!

It seems to be fixed... for now. Anyway, just for fun, here are screens of the pavilion in Old Mode.

The problem seemed to have been the video card's fan. It would barely move at all. It was cleaned and put back in, and it seems to be working fine now.

And the screenshots were thanks to the graphics being from the motherboard (looked at this site without any video card at all). Only had 4-bit colore and 800 x 600 resolution. x_x

Fans can definitely cause freezing. Actually, any device overheating can cause it. (Although, with Intel, a dirty CPU fan usually results in extreme slowdown). Everyone should get compressed air and blow the dust out of their computers regularly. (Just make sure you don't tilt or shake the can though).

Yeah, I know. It just sucks because I reformatted the hard drive in case it was a virus. There is a lot of thing's I'll have to reinstall, when I didn't need to format. Oh well.

That's the best part. My buddy has a decent size scar on his arm from that.

I've used cans of compressed air before. It was used extensively on the PS2. I really should get one of those again, eh?

Yes. Blow the dust out of your computer regularly and carefully.
