    Post your sculptural art here!

I searched a bit and didn't manage to find a thread where potters can post their work.. so, here it is:

    For potters, glassblowers, sculptors, etc.

Just make sure to give credit where credit is due.

I have some selected works from my father (who took the class with me), teachers / professionals (From an auction / raffle), and some things I did.

    Me:
This here is my favorite mug, argyle style. I ended up giving it away a couple days after bringing it home.

    A carved, wheel thrown cylinder:

A more stout cylinder, with black and white glaze:

    My father:

A couple mugs using marbled clay, glaze fired and salt fired:

    A marbled soufflé pot:

    Raffle pieces:
A ceramic elephant I won done by one of the teachers, Mark Lambert:

Our Xmas tree pot, done by an unnamed teacher or TA:

Those are pretty awesome. I wasn't aware that other pavilion peeps did ceramics!

Your dad's mugs are cool. How'd he get that marbled color?

My most recent accomplishment as seen in the other topic...

And here's some face jugs I did

    ...and that's why.

          $300.

Edit: And I'm only saying that because I know you won't buy them.

Let's not start a discussion about how artwork is waaay overpriced and blah blah blah... You wouldn't believe what people pay for artwork.

Those jugs are incredibly awesome, Den.

And he used this powdery coloring, wedged color into separate lumps of clay, and wedged those together, makes a really nice marble effect.

              Ah, I see. Cool!

The mugs and most of the facejugs were all made from red earthenware (and some porcelain for the eyes and teeth) and fired at cone 6 with clear glaze in a reduction kiln.

The 3 ones with the funky bubbly green/grey glaze in the last 2 pictures are actually the same as all the rest, just fired differently.

I don't know, I don't think anyone would pay $300 for something some dude slapped together in art class... But hey, art isn't really that expensive, I mean you could go to the dollar store and buy huge earthenware clay mugs for a dollar, glazed even. I don't want to turn this into a discussion about how some people are greedy though.

Most of that stuff is cheaply made and mass produced. Granted I wouldn't pay $300 for something that I knew was 'slapped together in art class'.

But like I said, you wouldn't believe what people pay for stuff.

I dont know, I think anyone would be a that much of a jerk over the charing price of a peice of artwork... But hey, your not the only one, i mean you could go on the internet and find a huge amount of jerks by joining a messageboard, youtube even. I dont want to turn this into a discussion about how some people are jerks though.

Owl of Parliament, how did you ever get to be so cool? I must be some kind of loser because I've got twice as many posts as you and I still haven't maxed out my goblis. Do you think you could teach me your ways?

Maybe I should hang onto someones every word and make a wacky signature out of it. Is that a start?

Sorry about that, honestly I am. I would just like to defend what I said here.

Toaster, you were all over my posts before... just because I said your posting lately was "average at best" isn't your cue to start coming around every time someone criticizes me and be like "Owl, hes a jerk **** him," and it doesn't we can't still get along. The gobli thing was a joke, there's lots of cool people with only a few gobli's. Rep isn't something serious, it just a fun little thing at the pavilion that some people use more than others.

I really hate that whole silly cliche that if you slap something together and call it art you can sell it to dumb rich people for ton of cash. I love how Dene was like "$300 for that," then he edited his post and said lets not turn this into a discussion about how art is overpriced.

I left the whole mug thing alone but, "you wouldn't believe what some people pay for art," after reading that line. The prices weren't fair, and he had 50 of them, and hes kind of ripping off his friends. But I didn't say anything because selling them at the pavilion was part of his ceramics sale and maybe I was just being a cheap bastard or something. I guess at the most he could have been like "guys, I've known a lot of you for over 8 years now and I got these mugs I made in art class and I'll give a couple away to the first few people who wants one." he could have done something really cool with his 50 practice mugs. Or sold them in a set for 10 bucks or something, at least a fair price.

How about this Muse, go on ebay look up earthenware, earthernware mugs, just earthenware in general. And if you still think I'm the jerk then I'll sell you the golden gate bridge for ten dollars.

We actually had this discussion in my drawing class the other day, in reference to modern art. There is a piece in the Walker Art Center that isn't anything more than a piece of wood painted red. Some of the students were furious saying, "That isn't art." Blah blah "I can't believe someone would pay so much for that"

The teacher's rebuttal for that was for the artist in question in a sense. First of all, modern art he says is a means for seeing how far the definition of art goes. A painting could be defined as a surface with paint on it. But then again, he went on to say how those boundaries can't be stretched (and still considering this person an artist) without first being taken seriously as an artist beforehand. If they can do the "real" stuff, that gives them the right to "slap things together" and call them art.

Another student's perspective on that is simply that in order to be a good artist, you have to be able to take any piece of work and say, "it's meant to be that way." Generally speaking, this person's thought was that art is about 20% work and 80% bull****.

I don't know anything about that. I'm not capable of pointing my finger at myself so I just point it at everything else. I mean, it's gotten me this far.

                              ...

I went ahead and typed up this lengty rebuttal to the entire thing, a wall of text that would make even Catharsis proud; but I figured I could boil it down to just one sentence.

I'm just ****ing with you, bro.
