So, today is the day I get a 360. need help with some thingies.

Yup. getting one later today, when it is not 1:26 AM.

of course, as stated previously I have decided to go with the 60GB system.

I need game suggestions. not just NORMAL game suggestions, but CHEAP game suggestions. I want to start building up my library with cheap but good games (money is extremely limited with me throwing $317 at a new game system). not just for the 360, but for the original Xbox too.

my exposure to the original Xbox was very brief. didnt like it. but I have the feeling I missed out on some good stuff.

I obtained Dead Rising from my sister already. it's the ugly-box platinum hits version though. may try to get an original case from gamestop or somewhere else. with or without their knowledge, either way works.

I ordered Jade Empire and Shenmue II sealed from amazon a few hours ago. both were extremely cheap, and while I really don't know much about jade empire, bioware made it, and that's enough to win my confidence. and it was $3 sealed. that helps.

I plan on checking locally to see if any gamestops have good condition copies of Crackdown available, as that game has interested me for a very long time. if they dont have any that I'd want, I'll just get a sealed copy for $15 on amazon.

and of course, although I am not a great fan of the Halo series, they are good games, and I will go after the first two for Xbox whenever I find good condition copies (seems almost impossible for some damn reason). and Halo 3 will be obtained eventually if only to play Grifball.

and yeah, Gears 1 and 2 are on the list as well. Fallout 3 too.

but what else? it bugs the hell out of me when I get a new system and have a very small selection of games to play on it (see PSP 3 years later). I went on a Gamecube spree when I got my Wii, getting about 13 games in about two months for it, all very cheaply. I'd like to do the same with this new box. the only genres I don't play are music games and sports games.

    help.

    This I command.

    some things to note:

as I have a 36 pack of AA batteries, I'm not going after the play and charge kit or the battery charger just yet. absolutely no reason to get it now.

The only thing I'll be doing online is temporarily moving the router that is downstairs to my room, so I can download the NXE and install Dead Rising to the hard drive, since I remember many reports of that game slaughtering consoles when it was released. after that, router will be going back downstairs and I will stay offline until I get a wireless bridge. I will not be activating the 30 days of gold until I get the bridge.

Lost Odyssey is a pretty good traditional rpg. Mass Effect too if you're into heavy tone sci fi. I don't know, can't think of anything else good and cheap at the moment.

Well Bioshock just came out on the PS3 but you can find it for under 20$ on Amazon for the 360, the same price for Mass Effect as well. Orange Box used is under 20. I believe both Knights of the Old Republic games work for the 360 as well as Psychonauts and Panzer Dragoon Orta; all worth owning. Forza 2 is also great.

Oh, I recommend buying Braid, probably my favorite game this year.

          Jet Set Radioooooooo!~

I could probably snag you a copy from my job for like two bucks. And it's one of the best games ever.

If you want, there are some good arcade stuff on Xbox Live Arcade. I never could get a non-laggy MP match on Doom when I had gold though.

Id also suggest Chrome Hounds, and Ace Combat 6. You like Armored Core, and Chrome Hounds is basically a slower Armored Core. Hell, the decal making system in AC4, and AC4A is the exact same one from Chrome Hounds.

Ace Combat 6 looks ****ing unreal. When you get really low to the ground you can see the blocky, flat ground thats textured to look like buildings, but when you get high up, it looks almost REAL. Its scary. Its a great game as long as you can get past everybody yelling GO DANCE WITH THE ANGELS in your face every 5 minutes.

                  Original Xbox:

                  -Indigo Prophesy
                  -Psychonauts
                  -Ninja Gaiden
                  -Fable

Check the BC for the following:
-Magic: The Gathering: Battlegrounds (I don't even play the CCG, and this game is fun)
-Bard's Tale is pretty decent, and pretty funny.
-Chronicles of Riddick (I've yet to play, but have heard nothing but good things)
-One of the Buffy games (forget which one) is supposed to be excellent, even if you don't watch the show.
-Otogi: Myth of Demons (HIGHLY underrated)
-Phantom Dust is decent (unless you're Kumo Shinagi's brother....something King....then it's the BEST GAME EVAR!!!!!)
-Gladius (one of my top 5 games from last gen)
-Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders is okay for a medieval-esque Dynasty Warriors (but slightly strategic) button masher.
-Full Spectrum Warrior (I got it for $2) is a tactical squad-based shooter where you only give orders, and your units do the shooting. Good for people like me who are not into FPS's, but like the idea of tactical shooters.

I concur with KotOR and Jade Empire. Do not get the Sega 2 pack that came bundled with the hardware, though (It has Sega GT and Jet Set Radio Future; those 2 game discs do not work on the 360, even though the individual games might).

                  Xbox 360:

-Culdcept Saga is a decently fun card battler/Monopoly mashup
-Bully might be decently cheap now if you've not played it
-Viva Piņata (the first game) is actually a lot of fun, and fairly addicting

Again, I concur with the Mass Effect recommendation above.

I think a good purchase would be a $50 points card (or at least a $20 one) for some Live Arcade games when you do go online. When online, I also recommend DLing demos for games you're not sure about, and any other free themes, trailers, etc, you may be interested in.

For Live Arcade games, I'd recommend:

                  -Space Giraffe ($5)
                  -Braid ($15)
-Puzzle Quest ($10) if you've not played it yet
                  -Rez HD
-Every Extend Extra Extreme if you've not played it on PSP

I recommend instead of buying 36 AA batteries just buy a cheap
set of rechargable ones with the charger base.

Walgreens and Wal-Mart sell em complete with chargers for as
                    low as 10-15$.

Sure they're supposed to be used for digital cameras, but man has
it saved me money from buying ass loads of batteries of that
                    stupid expensive charger pack.

Cons though, they can run out within 2-3 days of straight playing/
lot of button pressing. So buy a extra pair as a switchout while
                    the other pair recharges.

And so far, you and everyone in the topic suggested/listed
                    everything I would suggest.

Oh, Castle Crashers on XboxLive Arcade is pretty fun, but the online
multiplayer is broken and being fixed right now.

If you enjoy Dynasty Warriors for the mindless fun it provides, the 360 has a decently fun Gundam version. Call of Duty 4 is an awesome game, but far from cheap I'm sure. If you've not played Deus Ex on the PC I suggest it for the original XBox. I triple recommend Earth Defense Force. Marvel Ultimate Alliance is actually pretty fun if you can get a few friends to play with. F.E.A.R. if you haven't played it yet. Lastly, Beautiful Katamari if you can fin it cheap enough is still a pretty good game regardless of how douche-baggy the extra levels are.
                      Grow!

Instead of game suggestions I'll make a purchasing suggestion. GameFly sells a lot of their games (you don't have to be a member) and let you purchase a game that you're renting and decide to keep. Their prices are less than GameStop's and they always give you the manual and case, quality was optimal with the two PS2 games I bought from them. If you're a netflix member you can get a 30 day trial instead of the standard 10 day.

                            Noooooooooooooo... Lost Odyssey is bad.

And remember that only some original Xbox games work on the 360. Check out the offical website for which ones do.

Don't forget digital downloads too. Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Pac Man: CE are both fantastic.

But you can get Bionic Commando on the PS3 and play it with a better D-pad.
