Convince me to or not to buy a PS3

Don't even think about persuading me to buy a 360. I watched Batman Begins on FX's DVDs on TV thing... Every commercial was dedicated to the glorification of the 360 and how much better it was than every other system ever.

So anyways, should I get a PS3, or should I stick with just the Wii?

    Don't copy that floppy!

    I just bought a 360.

If you're not happy having just a Wii then getting another system would probably be a good idea. PS3 is good and stuff too. I guess. In its way. MGS4 and LBP and Uncharted and whatnot. Possibly Resistance if you're into that sort of thing.

        I have all three systems.

The Wii is a piece of garbage collecting dust.
The PS3 is almost exclusively used for movies, which it does very nicely. MGS4 and Little Big Planet were short diversions. I think it's an okay system.
The XBox360 is my favorite system of the three, but it is loud and has annoying hardware problems.

I have all three, and I 100% agree that fanboy-ism is stupid. There are good games worth playing on all three systems. I wouldn't be able to play Animal Crossing or No More Heroes or the upcoming Mad World on the PS3 or the 360, and I wouldn't be able to play Valkyria Chronicles or LBP or the upcoming Heavy Rain (*drool*) on either of the other systems.

As a media player/center, the PS3 is unmatched. For (affordable) expandability options, the PS3 outdoes either of the other two systems. Want a bigger hard drive? Put in an off-the-shelf laptop hard drive instead of buying an overpriced proprietary hard drive like you're forced to with the 360. Want to go wifi? PS3 is wifi out of the box, without buying an overpriced wifi adapter as with the 360. Want to recharge your controller? Instead of having to buy a $20 play and charge kit (360), any mini USB to USB cable will do. Sony has a $20 2 pack of 10 ft cables if you need length, but any will do.

PS3-best Blu-Ray player on the market.
30+ PS3 games output at 1080p, whereas exactly 3 Xbox 360 games do.
Free online play, and, once it's up and running, Home will blow away the "social connectivity" features of either other console.
New Nintendo system is projected at 2011.
New Microsoft system is projected at 2010.
Sony plans a decade lifespan for the PS3.

          Good, unique downloadable games.
Internet browser built in (if you need that).
Ability to help find the cure for chronic diseases via Folding @ Home.
Plus, it just looks damn sleek.

I'll probably add to this list later....

Re: Convince me to or not to buy a PS3

Home is terrible, and the fact that it exists is about as big of a mark against the PS3 as friend codes are to the Wii. Home has been extremely gimped by the Sony legal department, and originally announced features like watching movies or listening to music with friends have been removed from the beta (and very likely the final version) with sony citing legal concerns.

Also, the online play of the PS3 is garbage. full of lag. I've had less lag playing brawl on the Wii. yes, it's THAT bad. but at least it's wifi capable out of the box. and it does everything online except for playing games very quickly.

New Nintendo system is projected at 2011.
New Microsoft system is projected at 2010.
Sony plans a decade lifespan for the PS3.
And if the projected system launches are correct, the PS3 will spend a good chunk of that 10 year lifespan as outdated, unsupported tech. basically, what the PS2's support level has been since late 2006. How this can possibly be looked at as a "plus" is beyond my understanding.

BUT... I wouldnt want to have just one console this generation, no matter what it was. Too many top-tier exclusives on all the systems. I always make it a goal of mine to own all the major systems in a generation.

if you want a PS3, get a PS3. it's a damn nice system, and Sony, being the underdog this generation, is going to fight extremely hard to make the thing worth your while. I'd strongly suggest you get a PS3 with PS2 compatability though. the hard drive and virtual memory card feature make it an RPG Maker user's dream come true. every RPGM game I've ever converted for the pav's library is still on my PS3's hard drive for me to play whenever I want with no hassle at all. and I LOVE that.

Oh, and Alzar's Wii may be collecting dust, but the PS3 literally inhales it. it's like a chinchilla taking a dust bath. really.

This generation is the most aggravating in histoorryyyy. Because they're all pretty ****ty in some form.

Just look at the games. If you wanna play that game then get that system. IMHO, the best games of this gen are Gears of War, Gears of War 2, GTA4, Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. Brawl. You already got a Wii so I imagine that must be disappointing.

Or just get a DS, that thing's solid gold.

                Or a PSP *** SPOILERS ***
                that you can hack olol
                *** END SPOILERS ***
                .

Not to turn this into an anti-PS3 ad, I think it's got plenty of reasons that make it worth buying and I agree with most of what Perv listed except...

I watched that 15-minute video of the Home beta and it all just seemed so utterly pointless. Granted the social aspects of the other consoles also seem mostly pointless.

That decade includes the years that PS3 will keep being produced after PS4 is released. It'll probably come out in 2010 or 2011 as well. With 360's headstart being its biggest asset (along with M$ buying exclusives like mad) I seriously doubt Sony will let that happen again.

                        okay. well.

                        i have a ps3 and think it's pretty neat.

mostly because i can still play ps1 and ps2 games on it which i think are amongst the best games ever made.

also, the whole blu-ray thing is neat if you're into that.

                        that's my opinion.

But there's a lot of focus in a single genre. Shooters.

My cousin bougt an Xbox 360 when it was first released, and loved it.

Then he had to buy another one 3 months later.

Then another, 4 months later. That one was then sent to microsoft 4 times to fix software/mechanical problems.

Last week, he had to buy another one.

                            And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope
