    [DEC07] Eventyr - UPDATE

    Eventyr

Eventyr (pronounced even-tear) is an [imaginary] action adventure game with a focus on exploration free-form combat. You are a wandering adventurer and your goal is to find nine artifacts from an ancient, god forsaken land. You are alone; everything is hostile. There are no stores. There are no safe havens to rest. All you have are your wits, training, and a sharpened blade.

    Story

The Forsaken Land; a sprawling expanse of wasteland, desert, poison fens, dark forests, and treacherous hills. Legends tell that nine artifacts in nine places of worship contribute to the land's decay. On the horizon bordering the Forsaken Land, an enigmatic wanderer surveys the fields before him. Wielding only an ax and shield, the drifter aims to conquer all before him. Without uttering a word, he steps foot into hell on earth, never to turn back until he finds every artifact or ends up in a beast's belly.

    Inspired by that Zelda topic.
    WORDS?

    What the **** is that?

Everything should be blank and desolate. You should work more on the art than the WORDS.

I hate this comic style where artists have to make people READ. They should be able to figure out what's happening themselves!

you're absolutely right. the thing about comics is that combines the subtlety of still pictures with the expressiveness of text however comics have, until recently, focused too much on the literary aspect and not enough on the still images. Images express action and the gutters between panels denote time. I wrote a 6,000 word thesis on this subject, give me a minute to dig it up.

        don't bother

comics tell stories, it doesn't matter if the images simply aide it or are the actual means of conveying the story. both are acceptable.

He'll come back to life. They always come back to life.
Twothorp was in immense pain. The blisters did not care.

Drifter is a rugged man. If he starred in a game, it would feature a custom shaving system. The sharper the rock, the cleaner the shave. It doesn't really matter much because Drifter is a manly man and his beard will grow back instantly.

then all the gamers can see what it's like to shave!

naw, seriously though, i really like it. it has a very vintage comic/character design look to it. my critique would be that you could probably go for a little more detail besides just hatching.

i love water colour on ink.

Yeah I rushed the image because I was so excited. I'm working on an actual manual now which will have more detailed art that isn't made up of sketches.

Speaking of which, it's time for a "field guide" entry. After sifting through all of my old Dungeons and Dragons 1st and 2nd edition books I've gotten some major nostalgia bombs. I loved the old, crude art in the monster manuals before computer coloring became popular.

                    Skullture
                    Magical Creature - Avian

                    Description
Skulltures are cunning predators that resemble a human skull with feathered wings and taloned feet. Vicious and territorial, skulture's attack any perceived threat by hovering over and then dropping on their prey, using their weight to deal blunt trauma. If restricted to close quarters, a skullture will savagely thrash their opponent with their sharp talons. Although blunt, their teeth powered by strong jaws can masticate even the toughest meat. A skulture's body is rock hard and only the toughest weapons can pierce it. They are, however, vulnerable in their eye sockets which expose their soft flesh.

                    Biology
Skulltures are the size of human heads with a wingspan of 3'. They can weigh up to 20lbs fully grown. Their plumes vary from red, black, and uncommonly a dark violet. They communicate through screeches, squawks, and talon clicks. They travel in groups of 8-20 (flock) or hundreds (murder). Skulltures are asexual and reproduce by laying up to 5 eggs once in their lifetime. A skullture can live to be 5 years old, reaches maturity in a month, and lays their eggs at 3 years. Skullture eggs are highly nutritious but carry a scent that skulltures are highly sensitive to.

                    Tips
-Skulltures rely on maneuverability to fight and the open sky is their terrain. The more momentum they gain, the harder they hit.
-Fight skulltures in close quarters, preferably under overhangs or small caves.
-Ranged fighting isn't recommended. Arrows can't pierce their skulls and hitting an eye socket from a distance further than 5m is near impossible.
-Due to their weight, skulltures are slow to ascend and accelerate. Knocking a skullture to the ground effectively stuns it and evasive maneuvers can easily trick them.

                      Drifter
                      Humanoid - Quasi-Deity

                      Description
A man who has gone by many names; Drifter, Wanderer, Adventurer, Traveller, He-Who-Does-Not-Speak, etc. Regardless of what people call him, one thing is for sure; when he sets his eyes on a goal, he does not give up until he is physically destroyed or succeeds.

Drifter is actually a deity of some sort although he doesn't answer prayers and belief doesn't empower him. He appears every ten years, tackles a challenging situation, then disappears to wherever he came from. No one knows who he is or where he came from. He doesn't speak, he appears to have no emotion, and it's assumed that he always forgets his past adventures.

While immortal in that he always returns, events that have resulted in his "death" have been recorded whereupon his body and possessions immediately disintegrate. Drifter appears as an average sized human with dark, curly hair and bronze colored skin. While his strength and agility are above average, Drifter seems to be strengthened by will alone as if his singular focus on a specific goal grants him super human strength. Situations impossible to a normal man are but child's play to Drifter as he can "force" his body to perform to super human limits. Drifter is proficient in a wide variety of weapons including hand-to-hand combat and grappling but he prefers long-haft weapons, like axes and polearms, as well as bow and arrow.

                      Stagmite
                      Magical Creature - Insect

                      Description
The Stagmite is a cave dwelling insect/plant hybrid that, an early age, burrows into a rock formation and "takes root." The Stagmites nerve-like roots draw nutrients from the rock although only meat can sustain its hunger. Although carnivores, stagmites are rather docile and attack only when threatened or hungry. A stagmite will typically cling to a cave's ceiling and wait for prey by picking up disturbances in the air through their tentacle feelers. When it senses prey, it drops, attempting to skewer its food. If this tactic fails, it uses its powerful mandibles to drag their prey to the ground, grabs it's prey using the suckers on their tentacles, then stabs with their sharp legs. Stagmites are slow and won't pursue fleeing prey.

                      Biology
Without their shells, stagmites are usually three to five feet in length and two feet in height and weighs 50lbs. A stagmites rocky shell is apart of them and if their roots are destroyed, they die as well. Stagmites reproduce by laying eggs and they only lay one egg in their lifetime which matures into a fully grown maggot within a year. Stagmites can live up to a hundred years and the oldest stagmites have years worth of moss and fungi growing on them.

                      Tips
-Stagmites can't swim. Remember this if you fight them near water.
-Stagmites are resistant to slashing weapons but vulnerable against crushing weapons. Focused blunt trauma loosens their roots and stuns them.
-Due to their weight and unbalanced shells, flipping a stagmite on it's heavy side can prove a valuable tactic.
