    Question about Dead Rising

I've ALWAYS wanted to play this damn game. and I'm getting a 360 soon.

But I have an SD TV. it's a pretty nice SD TV, 20 inch flat screen CRT. never given me problems before.

and yeah, I know Dead Rising's text isnt readable on an SD TV.

but what I'm wondering, is if the game is still playable and finish-able without being able to read the text. perhaps with the use of an online guide?

    With a guide, yeah, sure.

Without a guide, maybe. Get a guide.

Just know that there is quite a bit of dialogue that does not have voice acting. Like dialogue that tells you the next objective in the main missions or the survivor you must rescue within the next few minutes or their done for.

      :/

EDIT: I forgot to say that whenever these things come up, they appear as destinations that can be selected on Frank's watch menu. So important crap like this listed, so it makes that a little easier.

I bought Dead Rising while I only had a 17" SD TV. Game was fine, but I couldnt even play the game with the text like that. Even ****ing picking up items, or reading something on the wall. Its just a mass of white blurred letters. Its retarded. I couldnt stand it and stopped playing.

Then like about a year later I got an HDTV, and the text is fine. I started playing it again, but I still havent finished the game.

If you're sitting 5 feet away from the tv you can read it. Any more than that and you'll need a telescope. The game gives you an objective pointer so it shouldn't be that difficult.

Is it really that difficult/time consuming to include a text resolution option in console games??

I dont understand it though. All my other games I could read just fine on my SD TV. Capcom was just being a bunch of assholes I guess. didnt they even say something about how they arent doing a patch cause it would be too much work, and how people should get with the times and get an HD TV or get out?

Pretty much. I also hear the new Banjo Kazooie game was designed exclusively for HDTV's. The text in Dead Rising looks fine on a component tv and unless your set is from early 90s you should have more than a composite input on it.

But yeah, the head director (forgot his name, worked on the original Resident Evil) basically said "Get with the times, guys. Everyone has an HDTV."

You can do it without a guide, as long as you take the time to explore to figure out the best route.

But don't expect to go saving anyone unless you get a guide. I only ever saved the two old people at the start.

I never used the guide and I saved maybe half of the survivors and got the real ending.

Without mentioning any spoilers, the key to making your life easier is to do all of the events. Otis will call you and tell you something is up and you should go investigate those immediately if you have time (beware that if you run out of time for a story mission then you instantly fail the entire story). Completing non-story related events opens up shortcuts. The only thing I truly hated about the game was that the door leading to the security office is permanently sealed so you have to carry everyone through the warehouse which is always filled with zombies.

PROTIP: Katanas are the best weapons and there's a katana store by the grocery store so stock up. Also, if you pick up the book on mind control after a certain boss battle KEEP IT. It keeps the NPCs from being completely retarded.

                      Re: Question about Dead Rising

I only played it with a small HDTV (17" if I recall correctly, though I've since acquired a second larger one), but I had trouble even then with the text size depending on where I was sitting.

It's annoying, because it is a really fun game, but you'll probably end up pretty frustrated without 20 something plus inches of HDTV.

And while we're on the subject, if you are planning on getting an HDTV, make sure and check the response time and plenty of reviews. A lot of LCDs have issues with the audio and video engines becoming unsynced, which is annoying to no end. I've been pretty happy with Samsungs, but there quite a few good ones out there for gaming.

Took me 15 minutes to remember how to change my signature, and this is all I came up with.

Yeah thankfully when I bought the game from jeroak he supplied a guide with it, I needed that to get through the game. Well not really to get through it but to know what's going on. There's still an arrow telling you where to go and everything.

I could kind read the text when I had a standard definition television. Enough to make out what I had to do.
