sexbox 360 questions

One of my friends wants to get an xbox. Which version/package would be best for someone who is more of a casual gamer? Which one is least likely to have issues (ex: RRoD)? Is it true that you have to have a gold membership for online multiplayer now? That's bunk if it's true.

don't get the cheapo model(arcade, i think), and only pony up for the super expensive model if you really want it. i'm pretty sure they all have the same chance of death.



super membership is required to play with others. lameo membership lets you get online and dingle around with downloads and crap. also maybe mmos. i dunno. super online isn't horribly expensive, but yeah, it's bunk.

I think the older ones you get, the better chance you have of getting RROD.

The 20 GB model is the best value if all the extras that come with the Elite are unimportant to your friend. If you want a bigger HD, just buy the $200 model and buy the HD separately.

I think all the models are equally likely to die, though I guess the newest run of 360's have a new potential fix worked into them.

Yes, you do need to pay an annual fee to play online.

I know about the fee. But back when I had live on my original xbox, you didn't need gold for online multiplayer. I think it's lame that they've changed it.

My friend likes to game, but he's probably not interested in downloading tons of stuff on it or using the 360 as his media hub, so a big HD isn't as much of an issue.

Right now, if someone buys an arcade ($200 model) you can buy a 20GB hard drive from microsoft for $20.

so the only advantage the $300 system has is 40 more GB, a chrome disc tray, and a headset. oh, and it includes kung fu panda and lego indiana jones

I tried opening my chrome disc tray before removing that sticker on it and now there's a bunch of gunk on it.

You need to already have the arcade system, and give the site your serial number and console ID number (to verify that you have an arcade system). after that, you can buy the hard drive. (it comes with 3 months of Xbox live Gold too.
