some people want to label "liberal" to mean "wanting government to do everything for me and not take any personal responsibility" and not look at the wide spectrum of "liberal" beliefs

certainly there would be more members of the more liberal party that believe...there are people who say stuff like NOW THAT OBAMA IS PRESIDENT I DON'T HAVE TO PAY MY MORTGAGE, HE WILL TAKE CARE OF ME and those people are stupid.

on the other hand, "conservative" has no platform and doesn't mean anything.

I always thought people were just crazy, now I guess liberals are simply crazier. I think the problem with this guys article is that he does not really define the term liberal and simply begins attacking a meaningless work within the context of his article.

I'm not really sure how liberalism somehow came to mean wanting more government. It would seem the stem of the word would be the same as say liberty, which would typically want less government in all cases except those which work to protect our freedoms. So for the 'liberals' that guy is talking about sure, they probably are deranged and have their head in the clouds, same with the all the overzealous conservatives who ban gay marriage and force everyone to be Christian, and police morality based on religious code (One Nation under God [and God only]). I don't see how wanting change and individual freedom could mean wanting more government and the government to take care of you (those are the Socialists and Communists, which are decent in theory but impossible in practice). I guess that's why the Libertarian Party was founded, to escape these associations.
