    Comments on Obama votes

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/11/10/o...red/index.html

The president-elect already has said he'll have a five-day online comment period before signing any nonemergency legislation, so Americans can be part of the process.
    I wait for the 10,000 comments saying U R A ***.

Ugh, almost no one will use it for serious discussion. And the ones who do will find their comments buried under "go bak to afrikuh u arub niger" style comments. And they won't be meaning the country, Niger.

I'm sure he would if he was the one actually going to read through it. As it stands some poor low level assistants will be very annoyed.

                This is absolutely brilliant.

Not only does it legitimize the guy as a democratic leader, it also does what he claims it's going to do: give your average, young, semi-politically-apathetic thinker a say in how the country is run.

For too long, governance is something that has too often been fosted upon us, either by a disaffected elite looking out for their own interests, or by a special interest group (which usually is either looking out for its own interests at the costs of all others, or is trying to force its way of thinking upon an entire nation). Now, at least to some extent, governance can sometimes be created from the popular will, and hopefully an intelligent consensus.

Even if it only sways him once or twice in an entire term (and honestly it SHOULDN'T sway him much more often than that), this is going to be hugely beneficial.

My only concern is that it could backfire if the internet community is strongly against something and Obama passes it anyway, because he knows it has to be done. That will lead to widespread calls of "U IGNORED ME!!!" which might be, in turn, ignored, or they might effectively do the exact opposite of what he is trying to pull off.

Overall, I love it, and plan to participate.
