Okay, so I have a friend who has webspace that's he willing to share a bit of with me. I want a website to put writing and stuff on, without being a crappy freewebs site or whatever. And since the server is the lions share of the cost and domains are pretty cheap, I've promised to buy myself a domain name and make a website (and by make a website, I mean bug Zieg to make one and help him a little bit) if I win NaNoWriMo. However, most of my searching has just found a bunch of deals with server space bundled with a free domain name. So I ask you, pavilion: what is the best place to purchase a domain name from if I don't want server hosting?

Re: Best domain name host?
Well, that's why I said best, not cheapest. I mean, if someone here has good things to say about godaddy, that's great, but otherwise what I've seen of them seems to concur with your "eh".Last edited by hitogoroshi; 11-09-2008, 01:43 AM.

Re: Best domain name host?
I use 1and1, and I'm not really sure what you mean by best. I mean there is only so much a domain buying company can deliver beyond the promised domain. I guess there could be shifty ones that sell them off after you buy them or something, but I've used 1and1 for a couple of years with no complaints. They also may be the cheapest, and you get a free 2GB mailbox with them, and private domain registration if you don't want to have your personal info on the whois database (or at least publicly accessible on it). You also get a couple of subdomains (blah.yourdomain.com), though they're not all that useful. Apparently you also get $5 off a 2 year contract through the end of November as well. So here is their site 1and1 domains.
Feel free to shop around though, if you're looking for something specific.
