We had a big staff meeting today where they set up the little room like a press conference with the managers up at the table in front.
The hotel Ive been cooking in has sucked since I started 6 months ago. The foods terrible, and they wont change their ways. But it paid decent, and I liked the guys in the kitchen so I stayed. Then the last 2 months Ive been on the breakfast shift. I HATE THE BREAKFAST SHIFT. Getting up at 5am every day drives me insane. Im a night person. I can sleep till like 10am, get up and do stuff, then stay up till like 3 or 4 in the morning. Thats why I loved the 2pm-10:30pm shift. But they moved me to mornings where Im miserable, and angry every morning. I tried going to bed early but it just didnt work.
The hotel has been losing money every month, and they went way over budget renovating the 5th floor, and wanted to keep going, but the rish owner guy got all "Hold the **** on. You guys are losing me thousands of dollars every month, the economy sucks right now, you cant get anybody to stay in the hotel, or come in to eat, AND you want to sped another million dollars on renovations? Yeah, hell no"
So AAAAAAAAAAAAAAnyway, at this big staff meeting they basically said that at the end of December the restaraunt will close down permanently, but the lounge will stay open. They will no longer be serving regular breakfast starting this sunday and just offer a continental breakfast. Like muffins and coffee and ****. And the lounge will only be open at night, But theyll only need like 1 guy to cook. But oh LOL THERES LOTS OF CHRISTMAS BANQUETS SO WE'LL STILL NEED YOU GUYS TO STICK AROUND.
They were also being total assholes to two of the servers asking questions about things. One wanted to know that since the lounge will still be open, since she has like 15 years senority if she can work the lounge, and they can lay off the new girls that have been there for only 2 months. They basically politely told her to **** off and that the new girls that have only been there 2 months get priority over her since they cant transfer senority from the restaurant to the lounge. It was such utter bull****. She has all her certificates and everything to be able to work in there, and HAS worked in there before to cover for sick people. Both servers just got up and walked out of the meeting.
The new girls they hired on in the lounge are all young slutty looking girls to get all the old drunks to come in there all the time. The reason they dont want the older servers to come into the lounge is because they arent pretty young girls. The general manager is a total rascist sexist east indian dude, and all round asshole. Even the luggage boys hate the guy.
They are basically laying off a ton of people at the end of december, and knocking down everybodys hours until then. Right after the meeting I walked into the food/beverage managers office and gave him my notice. He was all "Your notice? For when?", and I told him today was my last morning. The meeting was right after my shift was over, so i grabbed some peoples last names so i can add them to face book, shook some hands, and got the **** out of there.
I was supposed to be in tomorrow and all next week at 6am, and there was a whole bunch of banquets going on thursday, including a chrismas party for 168 people. AHAHAHAHA. I honestly hope the place burns to the ****ing ground.
Another guy quit today in the morning, when I called him up to ask why he was late. He was supposed to be in at 10am, and I got ahold of him and he said he quit. They bumped him down to 1 day a week, and he said **** it. I was laughing, and told him that was awsome. He said hes at this place for his second job called the Mongolian Grill. I told him we were having a meeting at 2:30pm, and that everybody was expecting lay offs. He said if that did happen I could come by where he is, and they could probably hook me up with a job. Well, what we though would happen, DID HAPPEN, so Ill stop by to talk to him tomorrow to see if they can get me working there.
