I Got A Sweet New Laptop.

Go me. I actually got it a few weeks go but haven't had time to post about it until now.

In short it's got 4GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and a 2Ghz Pentium Dual Core. (I HATE Intel, but it was my only option at the price).

The laptop itself is amazing. My only complaint about it is that support from Gateway really sucks since they merged with Acer.

Other than being stuck with an Intel processor, this laptop is amazing. It's really fast. Best present I ever received. I can surf and play Typing of the Dead on the go now!!!

Yeah, my only complaints really with that laptop would be the brand, Vista, and Intel.

But really you can change Vista for XP, Intel isn't horrible if you care about price (I have a gaming desktop with intel so I am not one to judge). And the branding isn't anything.

When a laptop comes with Vista, most of the hardware usually only has Vista drivers available, so switching back to XP is not easy. (Not only that, I don't have an extra $199 for a Windows XP license, even if I do find a copy in a store). Not to forget, not everything is going to work properly. Besides, XP and Vista are just as bad IMHO, so I put Linux on it. Linux (to me) is a much better OS.

As far as the brand, there's nothing wrong with Gateway laptops, so I don't know what you mean there. I do agree that having an Intel processor is a downside, yet for what I use it for, it fits the bill.

I just plain don't like Gateway. All my experiences with Gateway desktops have been horrible. Usually somthing just plain breaks way to easily or often then they should.

I never had a problem with the ones I've had, personally. I can understand bad experiences though.

Well Intel is overpriced and underpowered, so you should hate them.

Fixed. I just go for what's the best at the moment, and currently AMD doesn't have a whole lot to stand up to the performance of Intel. Maybe it's a couple of years from now, but I think Intel learned from their mistakes and are making some of the best processors at the moment.

Boy that laptop sure looks familiar. *stares at mine*

It's a pretty good one, though. Does what I need it to, and a few things I don't need it to. Haven't had any issues with it so far, and it's been a faithful traveling companion. Grats on a laptop well-purchased. Or received, as seems to be the case here.

Also, my desktop is a Gateway as well. Besides the accidental near-crash it experienced that had nothing to do with the kind of computer, it's been a solid machine as well.

MY LAPTOP IS FAST AND AWESOME EXCEPT IT HAS AN INTEL CHIP WHICH MAKES IT NOT FAST AND OVERPRICED MY LIFE IS A CONTRADICTION

Although I respect your opinion, I still don't agree. The last time I checked, Intel's dual core processors were not true dual core, and their quad cores were not true quad cores. I've given up on them. Intel's processors are still more expensive than AMD at comparable levels of power.

I'm not saying that they're terrible, but having four cores with only two pipelines is pretty stupid.
