So yeah, I was just released from the hospital.

    ** Weak stomach warning **

Yesterday I had a weird shooting pain on the left side of my stomach. I was afraid that I had appendicitis, then I read while searching Google that appendicitis pain would have been on the right side. I took some tums, and the pain went away. I thought it was just bad gas.

This morning I woke up in excruciating pain in the same area. Krys took me to the emergency room, this time taking Tums did not help. Alan stayed with our parents. Almost immediately after arriving to the emergency room, I was hooked up to an IV and given pain meds. By this point I started to have dry heaves and blood in my urine. The pain was so bad that I actually was in tears. I had a cat scan, which didn't show any abnormalities. The doctor told me that I have all of the symptoms of a kidney stone, and that even though the cat scan didn't show it, it still may be possible so I was taken by ambulance to a bigger hospital. (At this point I was thinking that I had a Discovery Channel case where no one knew what was wrong, that scared me even more).

At the main hospital the pain was much worse, and I had to be put on even stronger pain meds. I had another cat scan, but this time they made me drink three cups of this really nasty junk that they tried to sweeten with crystal light. I guess this was to add contrast to the cat scan.

During the second cat scan, I was so doped up on pain meds I could barely even stay awake. Within a minute of laying still I was asleep to the point that the speaker on the cat scan nearly made me jump out of my skin when they talked to me through it.

After I was pulled through the other end of the cat scan, I noticed that my IV got snagged on some of the equipment, and I yelled for them to check it before pulling me through the other way. They insisted it was just wrapped around my pillow and pulled me through anyway. The IV burst open and I had saline all over me, and blood all over my gown and sheets. The pain was even worse by this point, overtaking the pain meds completely.

After they cleaned me up and sent me back to my room, I asked them for more pain medication and fell asleep again. When I woke up, I felt completely better and I tried to thank them for the extra pain meds, but they told me that I never asked for more. (I was so out of it I thought I asked for more pain meds, but I didn't).

The doctor came in and told me that I have a small kidney stone which should pass. Right after that, I had to run to the bathroom, and I passed it.

Now, I feel completely better, but this was very scary. I am very thankful for all of the people that helped me out and was there for me, especially my wife and parents.

    Today sucked.

I feel you, man. Kidney stones SUCK.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that, and I'm glad you're better now. Passing the damn thing is almost a religious experience.

That happened to my dad about a year ago, it freakin' sucks. If it makes you feel any better I still think of you when I see bottles of La Croix water.

I just hope that tomorrow I don't wake up in pain again. If I don't then I'll know I'm through this.

I already posted the picture of my kidney stone like three times so I'll spare the pavilion from that.
          ...
I had renal kidney stones, the first one broke up and passed quickly enough, but that second one didn't want to come out and didn't for like two months. I tried to manage the pain by constantly having a flow of water going through me, I noticed I only ever had an attack maybe a few hours before I would wake up. I still have back pain in the same spot from time to time, I don't know if that's common.

They let you out!? Shame on them.

Just kidding! Sorry to hear about your terrible experience. Glad you're not in any pain! Also, where the heck have you been! It's been weeks, man!
Twothorp was in immense pain. The blisters did not care.

Not trying to scare you, but chances are if you had one you're prone to getting another in the future.

                  Possible reasons for kidney stones:
                  • Too much calcium. This can either be cause by your diet, or a Vitamin D deficiency. Are your bones/teeth particularly fragile? Chances are you're deficient.
                  • You're not drinking enough water. Drink more! More! You need to flush those kidneys out and give them some exercise. Otherwise residue will build up, which will eventually form into said stones. This sounds easy, but a lot of people don't drink nearly enough fluids as they should.

Yeah, no kidding. I don't care at all that I eat super unhealthy, but I think I'm going to reform my life specifically to never have a kidney stone.

                        Oh god.

Kidney stone was the worst pain I ever felt in my life, bar none.

I had mine like 2 years ago, but I don't know if I ever passed it...

But yeah, I hope you feel better That is definatly a scary story.

                              Glad you're okay!

I experienced bloody urine once a couple years ago; ill tidings for sure. I don't know if it was a small kidney stone or a urinary tract infection, because--rather foolishly--I didn't see a doctor. Basically I drank a lot of water in the hopes of flushing my system out and endured painful discharges for three days before it naturally took care of itself.
