    HALP! (PC Monitor problem)

So it seems that my PC's monitor has just plain stopped recognising that my PC is on. I turned my PC off last night. Today I turn it back on and now it doesn't recognise that my PC is connected to my monitor.

I have reconnected the cables, fiddles with the outputs and nothing. I have no idea what to do now.

connect it to another computer. if you don't have another computer, connect it to another video card. It might not be the monitor, but your graphics output itself.

I just figured out that it knows it's connected to the computer, however it is not outputting anything and going into powersave mode.

I, sadly don't have either of those Trans. I do have a really old monitor I may try to use, if it doesn't work with it, it may have to do with the graphics card. It's a brand spanking new computer I got in July so I can't imagine that it's already busted though.

However I think it may still be under warrenty so if somthing is I may be able to get it fixed...

        Maybe...

Did you buy it, or did you custom build it? Last year, my dinky power supply that came with the case couldn't cut it anymore and did the same thing. Fans and lights came on, but the computer wouldn't POST and it didn't display anything.

Soooo could be a number of things.

            Dell built it for me.

And that sounds exactly what is happening to me. Except I can tell that it gets to the login screen because my headphones, mouse, andn keyboard all respond.

              oh.

well then try your old monitor with it. it must really be either the monitor or the graphics card.

Something else that is possible (though unlikely) is that your graphics card somehow started outputting at a frequency and resolution not supported by your monitor. You could try starting it in safe mode, though it's going to take some timing and luck to pull that off without being able to see. Another easier thing might be trying to get to the BIOS menu when you boot, if your monitor still doesn't come on then I would try reseating your Video Card (opening the case pulling the video card out and putting it back in [when it's off and unplugged of course]). if that doesn't work, might be time for a new video card or power supply.

Of course if it's under warranty, time to send it in, without opening it.

So I now have a 10 year old monitor in it...

It works just flippity fine. Aside from being obnoxiously small and spazzing at me some times.

I think it may be that my monitor doesn't like the type of cable anymore. Or somthing. As I have two of the same kind and it still won't work.

I am going to see if it works in another computer tomorrow and maybe do what you suggested TTC. If not, I am just going to send the monitor back to Dell.

If you get a picture with another monitor then the problem is certainly with your new monitor. You don't even have to test it out anymore, just send it back to Dell.

^ This. I mean you could try another cable, but more than likely the monitor is bad if another one works at the same resolution and frequency.

                        Re: HALP! (PC Monitor problem)

Ok. So now I have a new confusing problem.

It still may be my graphics card. Or the monitor itself.

I went ahead and called Dell they are sending me a new monitor. However I decided that I would try somthing and plugged in an Analog connection (using an analog inlet to digital converter, the same one I used for the 10-year old monitor) to the "broken" monitor.

                        Heyo it works now.

So if it's still the monitor then I am going to get a brand new one and have that connect to it too for dual screens! I feel its still Dells fault for giving me defective hardware in the first place.

If it's my graphics card then I have no idea what I am going to do.

                        So yeah, odd.
