Computer Problems (See my latest post)

Here I am just browsing youtube and some window pops up saying I have an infection. My computer is being really stupid right now. I knew something like this was going to happen soon.

So how much do you think a new tower, or laptop will cost me? I'm somewhat straped on cash. I'll probably be offline for a couple weeks until I get a new one. I could really use a price range before it completely crashes and I smash the ****er.

Um. Is your computer acting up so badly that antivirus software/reformatting/etc. is no longer an option?

If all else fails, couldn't you try reformatting the HD?

My antivirus programs haven't worked for the past few months. Like I said, I saw this coming. The window that appeared leads me to antivirus protction, but for windows xp. I have fricken 2000. For some stupid reason it's on my toolbar and I constantly have a warning covering the bottom section of my screen.

        Edit:

I'm a computer noob. I have no idea how to do that.

It's fairly easy to do. But you should really try to deal with the virus first, and use this as a last resort.

If the pop-up that keeps coming up is named something like "Antivirus XP 2008," then that is actually a virus itself.

Oh dear, Lausen, don't trust any random pop-up.

I'm glad i bought a Mac, I have had hardly any problems with it. Sorry about the virus though. If you looking for an ok computer you could probably get on for around $500 or less, but it wont be very special.

TBS is coming shortly... I finally got off my lazy self and contacted Datel, so new Max Drive software is coming thus allowing me to release my TBS.

Yeah. If there's anything suspicious about it, such as the popup always staying on top of programs, or leading you to a suspicious website, or not giving you the information you need... look into a malware removal program.

I've had one of these on my desktop for a week or so and I have no idea how it got there. And I'm trying to get rid of it. A free program called SmitFraudFix is supposed to be great for getting rid of this stuff, but it didn't work for me.

I didn't click the popup. It just ran.

Wow, that's exactly what it says, but 2009. It's basically done everything you guys have discribed. Everything works okay right now except when I'm online. When I go to different sites a it will go to a page that says your not protected blah blah... Go to this site to be protected or keep going.

I'll look into some of the things you guys recamended. If not, I'll just keep using it until it crashes and then I'll buy a new one. I can afford to spend like $600ish on a new one.

                        Re: Computer Problems

It is malware. My father had the same program running on his desktop back in the States. Imagine the fun I had troubleshooting that over the phone at 2300 hrs way over here.

I don't see what's so hard about troubleshooting it, though. Pretty easy fix.

My advice is to disconnect your network medium, run a search of your HD for the program's location (should be in either C: \programfiles or C: \windows32), restart your machine in safe mode, and delete it off of your machine and out of the directory.

Or you can run Security Task Manager (get the trial off of Download.com) to view your running processes, and have STM delete it off of your machine.

Afterwards I'd suggest running a legit spyware/adware sweeper. Adaware or Spybot work just fine. Make sure your definitions are up to date.
