I've actually played a few of these and have to admit that this article is quite acurate. The ones that I haven't played though sound almost more interesting than the ones that I have.
Thanks a lot for the link, I'll have to look into a couple of these.
eh I think they were really grasping at straws regarding Braid (and BioShock but no System Shock and where's Deus Ex that's probably one of the more hauntingly realistic games I've played) but it does bring up a good point in that video game writers are pretty terrible at what they do and think that BLOOD N GUTS = mature and deep storyline. Developers want people to take their stories of sword wielding 13 year old boys and nanomachine pumped super soldiers seriously but they don't take the material itself seriously. Most of the time it ends up as childish wish fulfillment and it's kind of difficult to find anything to connect with when the game is essentially the fantasy of a man-child.
Mother 3 is a really good example in that it's a "cute and light-hearted" game but there's very few games that can match it in terms of atmosphere and narrative. It's a really touching game and it ****** me off to no end that Nintendo refuses to acknowledge their most mature and grown up series.
Yeah. But is that really the best way to experience GTAIV's story? {{:3
And yeah, Ring has good themes. And I'm going to feel a little sheepish saying this considering I was a bit harsh on it at the time, Kairo did it better!!!
