Anyone live in New York City?

Cause I'm going to be there Wednesday through maybe Sunday for work (7-3). What should I check out? Any good restaurants that don't charge over $20 for an entree. Any parts of town to avoid?

I was there fairly recently. For a day.

            And that's about it.

                      I love New York City.

                      OH, YEAH: NEW YORK CITY.

                      Aaaahhh, ha, ha, ha.

                      Maybe in Chinatown.

But I'm in Boston, so, yeah, Magus can tell you something, maybe.

Re: Anyone live in New York City?

Museum of Modern Art: Free on Fridays from 5PM - 8PM. Gotta get on a long line but it's worth it for the art and ogling the cuties ogling the art. Striking up conversation with them is easy apparently. :V

Chinatown Fair Arcade: Mott St., between Mosco St. and Worth St., near East Broadway. Street Fighter 4 is here if you can spare a buck a game. Also, SF3, Puzzle Fighter, that fighting game with only anime girls in it... Decent/cheap ($1-2 for 5-10 pieces) dumpling place is around the corner on Mosco. Chinatown is fun to walk through in general. Do it at night, in the rain, with this music in your head. Or this music.

South St. Seaport: See the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan-side here. Also, boats and maybe even people rioting outside Wall St. Do NOT eat anything here. Do not go eat anywhere touristy - especially Times Square.

Times Square: Yeah, it's bright and impressive in a height-of-excess-of-our-civilization kinda way but it's also crowded, filthy and psychos with silver-painted faces and Spider-Man with luggage run amok here. Go once, snap a few photos and leave ASAP. Do not eat anywhere here unless you feel like getting robbed for ****ty food. Except foooor...

GoGo Curry: 38th St. & 8th Ave. Decent place for curry - Japanese rice, pork and some kind of brown sauce. If you're into that.

Midtown Comics: 40th & 7th: Also in the Times Square area. Comic mecca for New Yorkers. Hope you like paying $3-4 for mediocre single issues! They do have decent manga sales (40% off) from time to time. Worth checking out if just for the exercise (gotta go up a long stairway and fight through hordes of unwashed urbanites - errrreuuuggghhh).

Central Park: North of 59th St. You'll probably want to walk through this. Especially now that it's autumn. Uh, don't go at night (see: The Brave One, Death Wish)

Columbus Circle: If you wanna see a place that kinda looks like the center of Midgar from Advent Children. :V Also, a mall and the Lincoln Center Jazz place. Check it out if you wanna see a show there maybe. I did once and it was pretty cool~

Madison Square Park: Now we're headed downtown. Er, again. 23rd St. or so, it's a nice l'il park now completely taken over by the Shake Shack. A decent burger/milkshake place that always has a long line. Best times to go are during work hours if you can hack it and you got $12 to spare for lunch. Otherwise, snap pics of the Empire State Building looming overhead (you could uh, go there I guess, I never did) or keep heading downtown to...

Union Square: 14th St. - 18th or so. Another park, really crowded, surrounded by expensive stores and restaurants and a Barnes & Noble. You'll see skaters and unwashed hippies yelling about the gov't and construction everywhere. If you're lucky there might be a farmer's market. Get a black & white cookie. Let's move along.

Washington Square Park: Also under construction. At least half of New York City is at all times. The famous Arch is at the beginning of 5th Ave. You'll see a lot of NYU students walking around here. Feel free to kick 'em in the nuts or punch 'em in the tits or whatever. Snap some pics and get out to either...

The East Village: St. Mark's, Astor Place, the Bowery, Lafayette, Houston St. (HOUSE-ton street, none of that Texas ****) ... umm. Bars. Lots of bars. Lots of gays too. And gay bars. And Japanese food. And Starbucks. Sunshine Cinema is also on Houston if you wanna catch a Midnight flick of something (GOONIES? ROCKY HORROR? ANNIE HALL? olol) or keep heading east to hit Katz's Deli. Don't. ****ing. Go. In. You may not be able to get out. Seriously. Take a picture and keep moving. Don't go to far into Alphabet City though (Avenue A, B, C). Really, I've yet to find anything ****in' worthwhile here except for a German bar that I don't remember the location of. Eh.

The FDR: I'm sorta joking about this. You're gonna want to avoid driving here entirely but if you can't avoid this highway at least you get a Ridley Scott-esque view of the city. Er, at night anyway. Put on your favorite Phil Collins, put the top down and get moody. ***.

The West Village: Magnolia's. Spring the $2 on a delicious, buttery cupcake. Corner of 11th and Bleecker. Other than that, uhhh... not much to write home about. More bars. And beautiful brownstone apartment buildings. Seethe with jealousy as you watch hideous men walk out of them with their (young, blonde and/or Asian) trophy wives. Avoid despair and just get on 6th ave, walk South, find Bleecker, take a right and walk down it. You'll probably find a bakery or cafe that's nice. Or just ****in' go to Magnolia's. ****.

Uhhhhhhhh. That's just off the top of my head.

Go to http://nymag.com/ and investigate. Unless of course you departed already and I wasted my time. HRMPH. Oh, no need to worry about getting mugged or anything. Just don't do anything stupid. Stay in Manhattan. Brooklyn's okay, but you'll mostly get bars and hipsters. Harlem's getting better, but really, the whole place is safe thanks to a little thing we like to call gentrification. New York used to be like this, when really, it's more like this.

Oh yeah, be careful of Slavic gangsters yelling "POOOOSH MEEE, POOOOSH MEEEE."
