Welp! Game over for me :(

"Corrupt database"? I don't understand. Everything loaded fine up until yesterday. I didn't overload the database or download anything (if that's possible on a PS2). But the game either fails to recognize the memory card or gives me that message so..

I guess that's my time here! Grrrr

      Happened to me before.

I think I even tried blowing into the cart to see if any dust was obstructing it.

If it didn't take so long to save a game I would always make backups.

Guh! That's just terrible, sorry to hear. Sounds like it's a very rare thing...

How long do you think it would take you to restore what you had if you made it from scratch? I know that sounds like a daunting proposition right now, but I think you'll find most of it will come out a lot better the second time around.

I've experienced this kind of thing myself with RM3, and what Wave is saying was true for me. I lost months worth of work on my first game at one point, and had to start over. I kicked and screamed, but ultimately the game was better off after my 'practice run' the time before.

I have to keep a backup on 2 cards at once just because of things like this. What happened to me, was I'd be saving when the PS2 locked up. It happened to me twice, actually, and both times I had to restart large chunks of work. The first time it happened was when I was saving the game data. That taught me to keep a constant backup save. The time after I was saving in the game itself. That taught me to...update...my backup data.

Yeah, I've had it corrupt because of me being a retard and shuting off the playsation mid save. I've had to start over from scratch on one of my games. I had months of work done. When I got back to where I was, I was really happy it happened. Things just felt better.

Sorry to hear that though. I hope it doesn't kill all modivation.

Instead of just constantly saving the game on one block skip around blocks...constantly overwriting data in the same area will corrupt that section of the memory card eventually.

I normally alternate between 2 slots, and when Im just looking to kill time I delete the file Im not using currently so the game will have a clean save slot next time.

Also Ive noticed with RM3 that it doesnt save the entire database each time, if nothing has changed on "Island 1" since your last save the game will skip over that...if you do any heavy make-overs it might cause the save feature to accidentally "merge" some past save data with current save data...causing a corrupted file.

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

That last part in particular is extremely interesting... can we add it to a help thread somewhere?

Thanks, everyone. I think I will pick it back up someday. But I'm gonna take a break first. I'll be sure to try the advice you guys have given next time around
