    GoodSearch

Some of you have probably heard about it, but there's a Google clone called GoodSearch that is basically a internet search website like any other, only with one major exception.

Every search you make donates money to a charity of your choice.

How does this work? Every time you make a search, there are ads in the resulting search window. The companies who make these ads have to pay a small fee each time a search relevant to their ad is made. 50% of each of these fees is automatically donated to a charity of your choice.

I only use GoodSearch now, and set it as my homepage. Maybe some of you will do the same. Each search you make only donates a small percentage of one cent to your organization, but if more and more people use GoodSearch, that small percentage of a cent adds up. I figure if I search for things anyway, I might as well search for things and help other people while I do it. Maybe you think the same.

Try it out? I think it's pretty neat.

I would hope people here would be a bit more serious, but whatever.

Seriously though, what's up? Why the sarcasm?

Now that you know the newbies pain, the learning can begin.

I used to use it, but I didnt like it for some reason(cant remember)

This isn't aimed at any of you, but just a thought:

Everyone complains about how bad the world is. Yet, when someone comes along and honestly wants to help make a difference, we are all quick to scoff and criticize. I know GoodSearch isn't going ot raise millions, but for something so simple as searching, something you do every day anyway, why not raise a few cents? If more people did this imagine the difference.

I GoodSearch for Darfur, and so far this year we have raised over $2k for the oragnization. Big deal right? For just doing something you already do that's pretty free money as far as I see it. I can only imagine if more people did this.

The people who criticize stuff doesnt do it because they dont like the idea, they do it because they cant do anything but sit on the internet all day criticizing stuff like this when they make no outward effort to improve the world and have no intention to...it makes them feel better to criticize things that they couldnt do to make up for their lack of self-motivation.

                  In simplest terms...its called jealousy.

I'm holding out for EvilSearch. Where every search you make gives someone an abortion or rapes a unicorn.

This seems more like a way to make yourself feel better than anything.

I'll consider joining this if the searches are every bit as good as Google's, but if they aren't, then it's just not worth the time. Check this out:

I'm going to assume some numbers; please feel free to correct me if any are way off. Let's say they donate one tenth of a cent per search (if it's more like one half of a cent, I might reconsider my stance here), and each search takes you 20 seconds. Obviously it would take far less if it's not a "legitimate" search and you're just trying to spam for charity, but then you're wasting your time rather than using it.

If I do 5,000 searches in a year (about 15 per day), I'm earning 500 cents or $5.00 for my charity, and I've used 100,000 search seconds or about 28 hours on searching. Even if the searches are slightly worse than Google's, I'd rather have 28 hours of better efficiency and donate the $5.00 myself. And I'm no John Pierpont Morgan, but I do donate some money to charities like UNICEF myself sometimes, on a scale far, far greater than $5.00 a year.

Nothing against the search, the business model, or wanting to help people. It's just that I think there are better ways to accomplish all three.
