I just finished reading "Watchmen" *possible spoilers*

The first thing that popped in my head was that scene from the Simpsons where Barney first discovers beer and proclaims "*burp* where *throat sound* have you been all my life?"

After that I was thinking it was so good that I needed a cigarette but realized that I don't smoke and am far too lazy to start.

I really like it, but I have to give it like an A- because some of the stuff it reveals at the end you had absolutely no opportunity to see it coming. I mean, all of a sudden, BOOM. There are psychics and you can catch bullets with your hand.

Yeah, I have to agree with that. I didn't nearly enjoy the last two chapters as I did the first ten, although the first seven pages of the last chapter I couldn't stop staring at. The amazing parallelism used early in the novel pretty much gave way to sci-fi fanboy devices near the end.

Plus, Rorschach didn't get many lines towards the end. He was easily my favorite character.

They did allude that he could probably catch a bullet though I do agree with you on that point. Another thing that bothered me is pretty much in the ball park for normalcy save for Dr.M until

Soooo, it was all normal and realistic except for the parts that were not normal and realistic?

I didn't think the ending clashed with the rest of the book.

As a book that evokes feelings of film noir as the mystery unravels, the "unnatural" motivations that are revealed I agree are jarring. It's like if the killer in Se7en was uncovered to be Satan.

It evokes feelings of noir, sure, but the book is also at its heart a story about superheroes, and it blends the realistic with the fantastic throughout. I just can't see how the ending doesn't fit.

I think the ending fits, it just didn't engage me as much as the rest of the novel did.

That's a fair assessment, but I guess I didn't think that you necessarily had to be able to figure it out before it happened?
