Re: What is S Video?
Usually S Video on a camera is a way to export the video in a little better quality than the normal RCA jacks. I don't know if the one on your computer supports importing, but I should... the only other use it would have is to send video out, like to a TV screen or VCR or something.Do what you wish

Re: What is S Video?
in terms of quality;
S video is a step higher than RCA,
a step lower than composite.
most likely that is an S video out of your computer, and if you want to hook your computer up to a TV you have to configure it in the display settings.
Start>control panel>display>settings
if this shows an image of 2 screens then your video card supports a 2 screen set up. to do this you need to have both your computer moniter and tv hooked up at the same time (through the S video) and then enable the second screen in the display settings.
if you are wanting to capture video, youll need a capture card and/or a firewire card. i just recently learned about this because i got a digital cam...Esper Quest

Re: What is S Video?
yes, but these video specs:
Video Format MPEG-1 Video 1152 kbps; MPEG-1 Layer 2 Audio 224 kbps
arent going to land you DVD quality video. this is more like VCD quality, or maybe at best VHS ish quality. If you want DVD quality, your gonna need something that can capture MPEG-2, i believe. also keep in mind that higher quality video takes HUGE amounts of hard disk space. So if your ok with VCD quality, thats about 70 mins on a regular 700mb CD. True high quality Video is a crazy 12 gigibytes for 60 mins.
When i take my DV cam and want to dump a full 1 hour DV tape into my computer, its 12 gigs. note that a standard blank DVD is 4.7 gigs. so, how does this 1 hour of true video at 12gb get squeezed onto a 4.7gb DVD? compresson! thats right folks, DVD quality isnt the highest in existance. also i should note that it took my computer 5 hours to render (compress) the data(mine runs at about 1.5GH)so, for DVD quality you need:
A) a HUGE hard drive(if your gonna do anything important, like editing)
B) a fast prossesser( unless you dont mind not using your comp for a day)
I would like to note that I have use VCD quality alot recording some of my favorite shows, and if you can get past that pixelated look, its a great option for a "less disk space" video.Esper Quest
