    Dexdrive troubles

I've had RPG Maker for PS1 since it came out and I got a Dexdrive for it. Worked fine on my old Win98 and Win2K machines but on WinXP the system doesn't detect my Dexdrive. So no matter what software I use be it Dexplorer, Dexter, or PSXGE my Dexdrive just sits there like a lump.

I am hoping someone here has had a simular problem and will be able to help me out. I crave some new RPGs to play. I LOVE the games that were made over the years using this great PS1 software and I think I would cry a thousand black emo tears if I could no longer enjoy the game that keeps on giving.

Sometimes it just won't read and you got to unplug it and try it again.

It does that occassionally from time to time.

Tried that. It still isn't detecting it at all. I was reading around that other people had trouble getting it to work with XP too. Something about Microsoft locking the Com ports on XP or something. But I couldn't find a soloution.

I had a problem similar to this with my external at one point. I found that I had somehow actually made it invisible to my computer somehow. I can't tell you where exactly I found the fix, but I analyzed it under my control panel to find it finally. (I also have XP)

I dont' know if it helps at all, but I hope it does. I think it was somewhere under the options for external devices.

my dex drive worked in XP right away without any changing of settings or whatever.

the thing can just be a pain in the ass on it's own, no matter the operating system. there have been times where I've had to disconnect it and reconnect it different ways (plugging it in to the PC first, plugging it in to the wall outlet first, connecting while PC is on, connecting while PC is off) for HOURS until it decided to work, and that was going on back with windows 98 too. the thing is just a terribly made piece of hardware.
