    Gambiling my Financial Aid

My school just cut me a check for the difference, most if not all of it will be going towards living expenses/doctor's bills. Yet, I will have a little bit of a cushion. Around $500. I'm wondering what I should do with it.

I'm planning on saving it, of course, in the long run. But I'm thinking on going to the casino and seeing if I can double my money. I know it's a terrible idea, theoretically. I'd just like to hear what you fellas think.

You're gonna lose it if you gamble.

Even if you gamble a little and start winning, you'll get the gambling bug and keep going until you leave with less than what you went in with.

I'd like to try something really ballsy, though. Like putting it all down in one hand of Blackjack.

Spread a rumor that your local Blackjack table is hot.

I used my spill-over financial aid to buy iPods and drugs.

                Re: Gambiling my Financial Aid

Unless you have money to spare (i.e. the Financial Aid is over and above what you need and you are not in debt right now and don't plan to be anytime soon), do not do this. It would be idiotic.

The dealer wins over the long run, which makes blackjack, even when you play it perfectly (unless you card count), an expensive way to have a lot of fun. I play it occasionally, and I play it well, and I usually drop fifty bucks in a night, and it's fun, but I would never do it if I didn't have a bit of cushion in my account.

If you're extremely good at poker, that can be a risky but feasible way to try to make some money. Not blackjack.

Playing $500 in a hand just means you've got a 48% chance or so of coming out with $1,000, and a 52% chance or so of coming out with $0. To me, I'd rather have the $500. If it means that much to you to say you did it, then go for it. But only do it once, don't get greedy. And if you end up with a pair of 8s against the dealer's 7 and don't have enough money to split them, well, don't come crying to me.

Haven't you seen Empire Records? You'll lose the money and end up having to throw a rooftop party to save the store!!

This semester I'm using my disbursement on a bike and a plane ticket.

Invest it in something low-risk with a moderate return.

                        Uh...

Put it back into your finantial aid to lower your payments.

I had to use mine for food last year.

                        That stunk...

or you could just not be moron, just a thought.

try putting it in some other investments, like a TV, or the stock market.

TBS is coming shortly... I finally got off my lazy self and contacted Datel, so new Max Drive software is coming thus allowing me to release my TBS.

                              HA.

                              Shows what you all know.

I was supposed to work tonight, but it was pretty dead so they asked me if I wanted the night off. I decided then to go to the Casino with one of my co-workers Sean who was just getting off work (and also happens to be a pretty big gambler). I played one hand, doubled my money, then sat around for three hours drinking Gin & Tonics while Sean did his thing the Poker Room. He somehow managed to pull out $1200 ahead.

As for me, I'm now $500 dollars richer. I'm planning on using this money on a trip to Las Vegas this Fall. Not for more gambling, I'm going to visit an old college buddy who's in the Air Force and is going to be stationed in Korea come the end of December. This will be my last chance to see him for years.
