PS2 on the fritz

My PS2 no longer wants to read my PS1 games. It just makes a loud clicking sound over and over. It has no prob reading my PS2 games though.

Why is it doing this, and what can I do about it?

And don't say "Buy a new one".

laser's out of alignment.

you can send it in for repairs, or try to fix it yourself.

Could please you refer me to a place that has proper instructions to do it myself? I've been looking, but I'm not satisfied with some of the answers I've seen.

Why does it still like my ps2 games?

My PS2 did this today. I was trying to watch a DVD movie (my DVD player doesn't work anymore) and it made the clicking noise and then said it couldn't read the disc.

I took the DVD out and it had fingerprints on it (I rented it) and then after cleaning it off it played fine.

I'm just hoping the clicking noise was because of the fingerprints and not hardware failure.

I too now have I dying PS2 on my hands. After my original PS2 starting eating discs I got it replaced. Unfortunately I tried to save some money by getting the replacement at a pawn shop. Stupid me. Now it's almost dead. Every now and then it'll work fine but most of the time I'm lucky if it'll run a few minutes before it freezes. And once it does you can't even get past the loading screen with all the blocks. Heck, more often than not that won't even come up. So it's pretty much useless now. I still have some PS2 games I never finished but I don't feel like buying another PS2. Maybe it's time for me to move on to the current gen. *sigh*
